I love the definition in this piece. I feel like it can be hard to achieve a good sense of depth and the right values in subjects that are this dark, but you have done a great job at capturing the shadows and highlights accurately without making the entire piece look too dark

HI Glena, I like your style! The horse does look like a young filly or colt. There is a sweet look about this horse that's kind of endearing. The chest are might be a little heavy but I am far from an expert on that. Other than that I like your vision of a young horse. Nicely done My Friend! :o) Nancy

This artwork is pleasing to the eye, with nice shading work, however the jaw line and forelock area is bit off. Otherwise a nice piece to enter. Good luck.

Thank you again, Maureen, for reviewing. This is one of my first acrylic works when I went back to painting, acrylic on plein air panels.

This is a delightful art piece, Glena. I think that the outstanding artist who you watched would be proud of your rendition of this sweet-faced stallion.
The details like the soft mane, eyelashes, and veins (?) are outstanding. It is hard for me to imagine how you do these fine lines with acrylic paint. The white on the forehead is a nice touch.
There is a difference between an accurate portrait of a young stallion and one that in addition to being accurate is able to immediately portray its gentleness. And you did that beautifully!

Your heading is very apt Glena for this Traditional Artwork. You have created this young black stallion beautifully and he definitely has a sweet look. You have mastered this drawing so well with texture, light and shading. Lovely clear eye. Wonderful art work Glena!

I applaude you going back to painting. I went into digital art from pencil and painting and never looked back. There are days I do miss it. As I mentioned before I can tell your work from others. You certainly did make it your own. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you, artist and friend, Lynnmarie2, for your fine review and encouraging words. You do such beautiful digital work too. How does digital art work? Is it computer freehand drawing and painting or is it done within a program as you create? Thanks for responding. I appreciate you and your outstanding art.
reply by Lynnmarie2 on 05-Jul-2023
I actually do all the above, freehand paint, 3d rendering with software like Blender3d or Daz studio 3d, sometimes I take those renders and recreate them in AI programs like Midjourney Then I take that image from say Midjourney and transfer it into PhotoShop and add my own techniques to it to make it my own. Lots of levels of process but the end results are worth it. :)

Thanks for your responding. Your processes seem to take a long time and talent you have, but, yes, the end results are worth it, artist friend.
