Nice shot here deb with excellent exposure that leaves detail in both high lights and shadows. Well composed with the deer well placed within the scene. You have a bit of a green color cast on that snow. I think that could probably be corrected using the color balance dropper tool in Lightroom.

    This guy positively posed for me Eva....very patiently waited while I snapped a couple of photos. Now I went and looked at this again. I can't find the green cast. Are you sure you're not looking at the little grasses coming through the snow up in front of the buck?? I'm willing to look but you have to point out where you mean...lol I just can't find it. Thank you for checking out my new piece and do always appreciate suggestions.

    Hi Deb. I'm seeing it in the snow, for example on top of the bit of tree in the foreground. It may be that our computers are calibrated differently. Still a great shot, I do love how the little fella turned and looked back.

    That could be it Eva....and that damn broken tree in the foreground drove me nuts anyway...lol Only managed to get two images though before this guy ran from my dog . Would have preferred to NOT even have had that broken tree in the photo but....anyway, really do appreciate your thoughts and ideas. Thanks again.

I love the bright green of that tree. That caught my eye first. Then, the deer. Good shot/composition. Like your mix of colors; good thinkin'; the white let's that little guy stand out; I can feel the depth as well; good shootin' there Tex, and I don't mean pistols LOL. Take care and keep warm. We got the 40s today.

reply by swimmer74 on 16-Dec-2017
    I wasn't laughing. Today, I am not going out very much so I decided to wear shorts today. I think it's about 60 right now. Take care and stay warm.
reply by the author on 16-Dec-2017
    Oh I was only teasing you swimmer. I finally put my shorts away for the winter.
reply by swimmer74 on 16-Dec-2017
    I wore my shorts today. It got to be around 70. I wore shorts to walk on the treadmill. Starting to get cooler now.

The snow always looks so pretty before it gets trampled. We also have deer in our backyard and they are the ones leaving all the footprints all over. You have captured a splendid photo of a deer in your back yard. He is even turning around to pose for you. The details are crisp and clear. Very nice shot.

    Mostly they tramp about under my Apple Trees Karen. This guy surprised the hell out of me being there....quite a distance from the Apple Orchard. Do appreciate you having a look at my new piece and thanks so much for the very fine review.

Surprise , hell yeah ! Did your heart increase a little when you raised your camera to your eye ?
It's a great shot of a very healthy White Tail Buck .
I believe deer season is still open for your state and he doesn't appear to be a legal deer . Hopefully he makes it through the winter .
Regardless it's a very cool piece !

    Hunting season was over the Sunday after Thanksgiving John....and this guy was lucky. I think those spikes are long enough that someone would have shot him if he hadn't stayed out of the way. ...and yes, my heart was beating...lol I wanted to be sure to get a couple of photos before Comanche showed up on the scene....she was right behind me. Thank you for checking him out...and giving him such a fine review. I do appreciate it.

    I'm glad he made it to ! I was thinking he should be close to shedding his antlers . You think ?
    I should have that piece matted and framed today . I'm impressed but it's a TBI thing. Is possible to send you a pic when I done
reply by the author on 14-Dec-2017
    They shed their antlers during the winter months John so he may have them for another month or two. Some people apparently hunt for 'sheds' too (the discarded antlers) I've never seen a single one while snow-shoeing in the winter but I think lots of smaller animals eat them.....oh yummy...lol so they probably don't lie around for long. Yes, email it when ready....fingers crossed email works that day.
reply by TBI John on 14-Dec-2017
    Yeah , antlers are a good source of calcium .
    I've got a friend in Idaho , he's been training his Lab to hunt sheds . Very cool .

    Is the dog learning?? I could teach Comanche to hunt anything if I attached one of her tennis balls to it...lol
reply by TBI John on 14-Dec-2017
    He bought some antler pieces at a feed store . He hid them around the house . She caught on quick ! I don't know if she has found a shed yet . Just sent you an email

what a wonderful find a capture; it looks like coming out of a fairytale; it could have been an obvious winner in the winter scene contest; excellent sharp focus and control of exposure for the snow;
I think I would crop at the right after the pole in the fg;

    I really debated over that broken tree Fred. Didn't like the balance of the image if I cropped to the left of it.....never thought of cropping to the right of it though. I'll have to go have another look. Thank you for the suggestion....and for the wonderful review. This image made me think of life in a snow-globe...lol

Brrrr looks way too cold for me especially as yesterday we had 39c (102F) today being a little better at 28c (82f) Lovely image showing the pine snow laden trees and the young deer. :) Mary

It is a wonderful feeling to be surrounded by nature (although COLD is something I can't withstand). You are lucky to have captured a fine scene in your backyard. The framing, colours , the light and the overall composition have worked well.Good effort!
