This is when it is really at its best-when you are so engrossed in your subject there is nothing else, just the two of you- I admire your patience in those kind of temps-but like you said, the excitement far outweighed anything else-great peak of action shot-glorious lighting, tack sharp image, good detail surrounding the entire subject-the heron has a determined look in its eye, yet a touch of reserve in his step- great job-

This is an amazing capture. I especially like the light on his head, it is so illuminated. The head seems to be the hardest spot to focus on these guys. There is good action. There is good focus and depth. The contrast is good with the background. Very nice image.

I think you have captured this bird perfectly. Very good focus and the light highlights the bird's head very well. What is particularly impressive is that the bird appears to be treading gingerly in case of thin ice

Brrrrr... 20 degrees....
Mind you, it was well worth it, if this is the result.
It's a great photo!
The shot is clean and sharp, and the lighting and composition is perfect.
He looks like he's walking very tentatively, ready to use those huge wings if he needs to!
Great job - well done!

Lovely photo! It feels a little crooked to me causing me only slight distraction. However, I love your composition, lighting and color and how you were able to catch his movement. The sort of photo I strive for myself. Nicely done.
