I can see him shaking and how his hair wraps around his neck! Glad you got the small patch of dirt to offset all that blue water (maybe a little too much?) The shading of his feathers sits well against the backdrop; very clear. Good storymaking material! Leenie

It can not be with the fast lens you used, but the neck looks like he was moving. It takes a very dedicated person to be out in those conditions. The feathers looks sharp.

LOL, I reckon it looks like he's having a bad hair day! Really nice shot: beautiful colour harmony, great centre of interest and initial impact. Very informative artist notes, helps to set the scene and adds to the story telling ability of the photo. Thanks so much for sharing :)

Nicely composed photograph with great storytelling.
I like the way he just pops from the background, making him the center of interest, which of course, he is. Nicely focused... feathers are nice and sharp.

The fact that you caught this heron when it was shaking its feathers givrs a very nice look to the image.
Love the whispy look of his lighter feathers. Love his stance too.
Though you must have been freezing the shot was well worth it. I can relate to your being there. I go after some of my shots with the same fervor.
