Terrific shot Cleo. Lucky looks so happy. Great action. The colors are really vivid. Lighting is beautiful. Best of luck in the contest!

Great shot for a dog lover such as me. You took it at the perfect second as I see no blurriness do to the running motion. I like how you zoomed in, with only sand and water showing in he background.

Thank you very much. Actually it is not zoomed, just cropped. I do not recommend this kind of shooting. It is dangerous for the camera. Zoom is probably much better but I am not very good in long range stick throwing.

I am an amateur photographer; been for about four year, so I am not perfect. When you say not recommend, do you mean zooming or cropping? If you meant you prefer cropping over zooming, wouldn't that make pictures blurry if I would print them out on bigger that your standard 4x6?

Cropping and Zooming are two entirely different things. Zooming Is done with the camera [film or digital alike] cropping is done in the darkroom [film] or should be done with a picture program. Both should not harm the print quality. Truth there are some exceptions: Some cameras claim to have a 'digital zoom'. That is a misleading of the costumer by the camera producer. It is really a cropping done inside the camera what just decrease the pixel number and cause indeed bad print quality. Another cause for bad print quality after cropping is when the format the picture is taken in to small. Blowing pictures up is always a bad operation since only the pixels get bigger. There is an format sometimes called economic were you may get 1000 pictures on 1GB but even a 4x6 print won't have a good quality. Photos should be saved in the biggest available format. [Downsizing for the web is never a problem]. The original photo of Lucky was saved with 2816x2112 pixels by 39"x29" [2.6 MB]. It was cropped to 2244x1808 pixels what would provide a good print quality up to 31x25 inches. If any bigger prints [commercial, billboard etc. are planned the photo should be saved and worked on in RAW.
You camera manual should tell you what format is possible with your camera and what print sizes are possible for the formats. I hope that helps. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

PS to my first message. Please read them both. I just forgot a point. Not recommended was not meant for either zooming or cropping. These are both good ways to go. The not recommended means how I took the photo and were I was at the time. I was standing on the beach were the waves could get me to my knees and water splashes against the camera when i don;'t raise her over head early enough. Wet cameras aren't fun. Forgive when I was unclear. English is not the Language I was born to and entirely self taught. [Please do not forget to read my earlier message]

Thank you so much for your wonderful feedback; your English is fine, so don't worry. I may ask you for more recommendations if other questions come up, if you don't mind.

Very good actions photo with the lovely beach scene. My dog would love to be playing there on the beach, as well as I; looks like a lot of fun in the sun. Well-done job. gary

This is my dogs favourite game too. She was playing today at the river, shes 9 years old now and not walking too well tonight, limping around looking sad. She just doesnt seem to know shes not a puppy anymore and never knows when to stop. Your photo is lovely, nice up close shot with good colour and light, nice angle and good extra interest added with the waves behind. Good luck in the contest - Deb

Thanks, she's a little better but I think may need a trip to the vet to get checked over, makes me so sad to suddenly see her looking old - Deb

This colors are very nice in this photo. What a fun picture. The action is nice, though his "pose" looks a bit odd. Over all this is a very pleasant piece.

Thank you much for your accomodating review. There is one thing I do not understand. Why do you think his pose is odd? He is coming run-jumping out from the waves looking at me. He is turning his body in order not to hit me. He was very close. What is odd about it? The angle of the shot or something else? Please qualify.

OMG what a cute puppy. Great capture. Focus is sharp for a fast action shot like this. Love that he is coming out of the water. The sunlight is really nice too. Nice shot.
