It is a beautiful flower and it really stands out against the black background. What a pity they only last for such a short time. The colors are lovely in this flower. The outer petals gives it a golden look. Your image is nice and sharp showing nice details. Nicely lit as well. I like the way you have cropped this one. Very nice composition and presentation of this beautiful flower.

A very beautiful cacti flower. The black backdrop really makes the flower stand out. Very sharp and crisp focus on the flower. Very good lighting on the flower.

Beautiful shot, nice cropping, super sharp focus. I like your use of flashlights vs flash. I know how hard these "creatures" are to capture, as here in FL I have some from the Phillipines that wre given to me (there is some sort of custom of the women gathering for a tea on the nights they are to open) I don't evenknow the name of the plant (it is not a cacti.) Thankyou for sharing. Riki

Thank ypou very much for your kind review,
It is a cactus in the Cereus family. Queen of the Night, the scientific name is Selenicerus grandiflora. You can check it out on line. Just google the name. This is not a garden plant. The photo was taken in the jungle of Yucatan.

This is a really beautiful shot of a gorgeous flower. I really like the stem of this one...really interesting. I love the contrast between the white flower and the black background. Great job!

This is a wonderful photograph of a cactus flower.

Your composition is superb. I love the three stems curving up along the right side, all fairly muted colors; one stem holds your beautiful flower which dominates the center of the frame, The jungle darkness envelopes the entire scene, setting the main elements off quite well. Your perspective, taken from the side of the flower works very well, showing off all of the elements, the prickly stems, the varied-colored flower petals and even the stamen.

I love that you used flashlights to light this scene. This lighting has a professional feel, lacking any harshness or unneeded shadows.

Your focus is very sharp.

And your notes are excellent. It is nice to have these notes so the rest of us can learn or relearn a thing or two about night photography.

Very well done and a pleasure to review.

Beautiful composition. Excellent detail. Great texture in the flower. The lighting is superb. It jumps out to declare how special it is against the nice dark background. An unusual flower when compared to most common flower pictures. Nice contrast in the color and tonality of the parts of the flower and The little fuzzy thing that pops out of the top of the flower is a fun bonus in the details. The way the petals move keeps me in the frame to study the specimen more. Great job.

Thank you very much for your throuough review and the honor of six stars.
That 'little fuzzy thing' is like a flower inside the flower. Its stamen an pistil but it looks different. I will post a close up in time. I couldn't make macro with this one. The Queen decided to reside 10 feed above me in the brushes.
