What a beautiful Grosbeak. We have Pine and Evening Grosbeak up here. Nice clear, crisp lines. The fadded background makes him stand out.

A very nice close up shot of a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. The composition with the bird balancing on the branch is very good. The focus is good and sharp. There is a nice green neutral background.

What a gorgeous bird. Great color and detail, and that amazing dribble of red down the front...and he's got attitude - enought to look you in the eye and open his beak to say...feed me?

Willie I give you five stars, but why did you crop out the feet and tail of this bird...this is a great shot otherwise...but thanks for sharing!

Thank you so very much! I was very close to this guy, about 4 feet away. I was shooting with 300mm lens and when he landed this is what I got. No other cropping around the feet or tail! I usually try to get only the head but because of this pretty I wanted to see more! I have some other shots that show the feet and tail better. I will be posting a few more over time!

What a beautiful bird! You certainly got a wonderful picture of it. The details are tremendous and so crisp. I can't tell what it is eating, but I can see something in its mouth. I can even see all the details of the branch. I like the way you cropped this. I have a hard time deciding how to crop a picture. I would have wanted to leave the entire tail in the picture. This is much better. I've only been on the site a little less than three weeks and I've already learned so much by looking at other photos and listening to what people have to say about mine. I've only been posting old photos that I have been cleaning up in PhotoShop because I have some that I love that REALLY needed work. My mentor is on my case to go out and take new photos, and she is right, I must do that. I am still using an "amateur" camera, not an SLR and it doesn't shoot in RAW. I'm hoping to buy my mentor's old Nikon D200 early next year. I don't know if it will come with any lenses though or if she will keep all of them to use on her newer Nikon. She is a professional photographer and has sold numerous photos taken with the D200, but then she has been doing this for some time and had very good lenses. We'll see what happens. In the meantime, I have to practice with the Olympus that I have. I digressed, as usual. Your picture is terrific. It looks like I am right up next to the bird.

Thank you so very much! He is eating a sunflower seed! As you can see the beek is ver big that is one way of telling he is a seed eater!
You must be able to see the photograph before you shoot it! That is the one thing that makes the difference! You do not need fancy equiptment to get a good photograph! I do have a good slr wthe several lenses, but before that all I have had has been a point and shoot! I took wedding pictures with that! I would have to get most of the shots outside during the daylight! My camera has the raw on it but I never use it! I shoot with high pixel jpg and I have very good results from it! The main thing with photography is keep reading and study the manual!

Thank you, I haven't done enough of the studying! Shame on me. Sometimes I take too long trying to frame the shot and lose it. Sometimes I need to just take it and fix it later. It depends on what I'm shooting and how long the subject is going to sit still. I will take your advice, though, and study my manual some more. Thanks

Great subject, good clarity, wonderful colours and contrast especially the red on white, no distraction in the background. Well done.
