Very nice photo of the seedpod. Focus is a little soft, colors are great. Don't get frustrated, be happy with your photos, learn from your critics, read your manual (I just got a new camera too) and practice, practice, practice. You will get much better. This is good for a first. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks so much, I have received a lot of advice on improving my macro pictures so as soon as it stops raining (8+ hours of steady rain) will be out there again.

Nice close up shot, good composition however I wonder if a different angle would have either brought both tips into focus or extended the focus are for the tip you have in focus.

I wonder if your problem relates to how close you are to the subject. All lens have a length printed on them that states how far away a subject has to be before it can focus. If the subject is closer the camera can't focus and does some very strange things.

Thanks Steve, appreciate the tip and hopefully achieve some more focused shots - after the rain stops that is been raining for the last 8 hours straight just about!

This is a very interesting photo. A nice amount of blur to the subject with a simple background to bring out more detail of this seedpod. Maybe you are too close to the subject and that is why it won't autofocus; or, maybe slight movement. I also had trouble with my macro lens and am finally getting it right...well, sort of!

Thanks that seems to be the common response to my problem so when it stops raining I will be out there again (been going about 8 hours so far but it is winter!)

Pretty macro here. I wish there was more in focus of the middle part but still great job. Love the lighting and even tones all around :)

Great attempt with nice results. Like the composition, but as you said a bit out of focus! Love the neutral b.g. gives all the emphasis on the seeds you focused on. Good natural colors and framing!! May I suggest backing up or manual focus, you will see the results in the lens!!

Thanks so much - a few of the other FAR memebers have suggested not being so close so I will give that a try, was playing with manual focus but that didn't get me anywhere, possibly I am a little too impatient :)

Good job, I just got a macro lens and I am having fun. I think this is a very unusual shot, although, that is what makes macro lenses so much fun, you can create images that doesn't resemble anything! But you will find that out on your own, happy shooting.

This could have been a good photo,I like the composition. But as you say you need more practice.First and most important,DO NOT use auto focus for this type of shot.Macro lenses are hard to master. I always use a tripod to ensure the camera is still,be aware that outside shots are prone to wind movement, even the slightest breeze can ruin what looks a perfect focus.Focus manually and take several shots before moving on to the next. Don't be put off by failures. Good Luck Mitch

Thanks Mitch for your review and tips, I am looking forward to practicing more (once the rain stops which has been going for about 8 hours) - did try manual with no success but am determined to master the art.
