This is a wonderful shot of the bird. You have timed it well. The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good luck in the contest!

Beautiful photo! The colors, the contrast - the heron just pops out from the rest of the photo. Focus and depth of field are perfect along with composition/framing. Great photo!

Love this picture. Composition is absolutely perfect, the contrast of color between the heron and reflected tree's really makes this for me, thank you for sharing more please

He is a beautiful bird. Great background for him. Nice sharp focus enabling me to see every little detail. Framing is perfect. Very nice job.

Focus good, Reflections of fall off the water is nice. I do not understand why the blur of the fall colors. The heron is just that. The wood sticking out of the water and its reflection I good and sharp. I am really loosing the pov in this one. I am sorry I do not see what you are seeing but I think the colors are dull and on the dark side.

Thank you! You either like it or you don't. This was an old picture that I entered last year so I am promoting it now. The heron and stump are the subject and the fall colors are reflecting off the water.

Good contest entry! I love the deep tones of fall color reflecting into the water and creating a dramatic background to feature the heron with. Very nice composition with heron, log and the reflections. You have good focus with clear, concise, details of your subjects. Very well done.

Hi Willie
What an enjoyable shot. I managed to capture a heron on a day out at the riverside last year, one thing I like about them is that they stand STILL. not like trying to get a woodpecker which always seem to be on the move.
The is a good shot,
Very nicely framed with the bird on the left and room for him/her to be looking to the right, ( a little more room would have been nice,) but this is still a good shot.
Nice exposure, GREAT colours.
My critique is that is you look along the top of the birds head and beaek you can see artifacts are creeping in. like a separate line of shadows that should not be there. For true wlidlife and record shots this should be avoided.
other than that this is a good shot.

Willie, you are going to take this one to the top. Fantastic photograph with brilliant colors everywhere. The focus is spot on with the heron, and you captured some very smooth reflective water. I have not seen an entry yet that comes close to this. Good luck.

Two beautiful aspects to this photograph. Firstly the bird itself which is a wonderful slate blue colour. He looks alert and I get the feeling he is about to strike to catch a fish. You have framed the shot very well capturing the rock or piece of wood jutting out of the water. The second aspect I particularly like is the colours in the water. Made up from reflections on the opposite bank of foliage and trees no doubt, the tones are very warming. Gorgeous red and oranges tones with touches of yellow and green. Focus is very good and colours are natural. Good Luck in the contest.
