His eye is so striking! I like this up close view of his face :) The black makes a good contrast on the rest of his redness. I also like that the background is not in focus.

As red as red can be. These Cardinals are such pretty birds, and you have pictured this one in the most excellent way. So close that you get the feel that the bird is looking at just you, and with a bright and shiny eye.
Your focus is spot on and very sharp showing lovely details. The background has nice subdued colors and is nicely blurred. The bird is standing out from it in a very nice way. Your use of light is excellent.
The placement of the bird within the frame is perfect together with the neat and tight cropping. Your adjustments of contrast also seems to have been done to its full potential.
Another lovely composed image of a bird with good balance. I wish you luck with the contest.

I hope that this shot is entered into one of the contests because I think that it is a winner. Nature's colour scheme cannot be matched by technology or the artists brush. I love the way the branch behind nicely anchors the bird. thanks for sharing.
