An excellent shot of a great blue heron! Good image clarity and details. The blue background really makes the subject stand out.
Looks like he was posing for you! Well done and thanks for sharing an enjoyable picture.

Fabulous shot. Damn ! I'm envious . I never get close like that to my Great blues . That second eyelid is called a Nictitating membrane . Sharks have them too . They are indigenous to all aquatic hunters almost .

Wow! What a terrific shot! very clear! Nice balance with the coloring and love the organic negative spaces in how you divided the composition. Very nice! :)

I could use some of your luck, every time I stop to take the heron or crane photo, they fly away.Great portrait, perfect focus on the eye, you were lucky with the lighting coming from the right angle and colors are really beautiful. Blue blurred water adds the impact. Thanks for sharing this beauty.

I am glad you explained why the eye look a bit strange. Even if I know about the two eye lids I am not sure I would have been thinking about it. The blue water is such a perfect background for this shot.

Your focus is nice and sharp showing great details all over, and the use of light is just excellent. You for sure caught this guy with a perfect profile.

The placement of the bird's head within the frame works well. I also like the tight cropping but would have preferred just a tad more negative space on the left side since the black feathers are almost touching the frame.
Still this is a wonderful close up of a heron and your image is all together well balanced.

Very beautiful. I think this a great close up that shows detail. The shot while he was blinking is amazing.

Well Willie you really captured some excellent detail on this. I like the way the softened earth tones of the bird contrast the deep blue water in the background. Great job!
