Quiet Beyond the City

Seascape with city on the distance

It's a nice composition, with the canal, the lush vegetation, the waterfall, the lake, and the city in the distance. You have a modified S curve here, with the canal zigging in, the waterfall and lake implying a zig out, and then a zig in again along the horizon line. The sky is a bit quiet but perhaps that's to balance out the other elements.

Of course, the scientist in me is wondering, what's going on here? Is the whole lake draining and if so why? And why isn't that canal filled with water if there's a waterfall so close by with no obvious intervening barrier?

ahh you caught my test for the viewer. I did have the water painted in flowing down between the canal, but I just didn't like the way it looked, so I decided to leave it up to the viewer, is the waterfall futher away and flowing into a body of water away from the two clifts and thats a trail in between them both, or is it where the water drains an dthe clifts walls are higer up so you don't see the water flow.....had to add some guess work for the viewer, I had one call it the nice trail that leads to the quiet scenry up above, another mention the flow of water in the canal, and yet another ask was the gray water and if it were it didn't seem to blend. Not sure how he thought that wall was water, but then again we all see art differntly that's what makes it so enjoyable.
I really love your reviews you always give me room to think. thank you for the rating also

If I COULD I would plant a six star rating on this one 4 sure!Thesky is a beautiful
combination of 'true' sky colors. The cityscape is done
excellent.The water is very
realistic and I love the way the waterfall is done. All of the shrubs and greenery are much more believable than any-
thing that is done in Bryce.
You keep on keepin' on girl.
I'm so proud of your accompl-
ishments(minus the eagle)~
A very enjoyable view~

the gray is a wall, that's why it has a gravel path along the top. I didn't think it would confuse anyone to think it was water, never thought of it. I wanted to leave the rock wall and the mountian open for the viewer ot decide if the waterfall is flowing in between the two moutians or in front of and that's a path between the two, guess I confused you in a differnt way sorry about that lOL
thanks for the rievew and taking the time to write one

This is beautiful. Love the vibrant greens and blues. so much attention to detail you have put into this work. Even down to the city across the water. Outstanding painting.

You are very talented. I love the sharpness and bright colors. The waterfall seems to have a big deep canyon to fall into.

These seems to end up to be your best pictures, starting out with one thing and up with another. How ever it works; you have a beauty here. It is surely your very personal style in beautiful vivid color. A great landscape.
[From were that water comes in Los Vegas? Easy to answer. They are the masters of illusion there. It is probably a laser show]

Nice view.. I think this is just about perfect. The only change I would make is to make the water less purply blue.. and more blue instead.. more natural looking. Excellent detail in this. Very pretty.

I did use just blues and whites but I guess after using the blend tools it ended up that color, I still can't get that down, water is one of the most difficult things for me to paint. not sure if there is supose to be ripples in a certain place or smooth, is the ripples too much or too little, and so on and so on LOL
thanks for a fantastic review and for the close look at this. I'll have to pay closer attention when I'm blending
    thanks again Nomra

It's interesting that the water has an edge, that it seems to stop. I imagine there to be a river that flows from it to the lower part of the wall we see.
But from the texture going down the wall, it's almost as if the wall has a thin flow of water...but maybe not.
Like the composition of this, and the colors and the textures.
Like seeing the city in the backround and being at the beginning of a beatiful escape.

I was going to paint a flowing river in between the wall and forground, but after doing so, I decided to leave that up for interpetation, is that a path or flowing water? Is the waterfall before the wall , or over the wall; decided to leave the viewer guessing and get a chance to use thier imagination. Your review of this is exactly what I was hoping for so you really made my day to see that I had you question that. I guess for paintng a seascape that isn't something that is normally done, it is what it is, but I had to be differnt LOL
    thank you agian filly

Very interesting piece. Love the lushness in the fore ground and your beautiful blue in the water. Your sky is well done and the city on the horizon perfect. Great piece.

You did not do this with twisted brush! Wow! You did DO this with twisted brush. I have to say it's really great. A bit bright (nature is usually greyed more which is why we add tints to titanium white) but the impact is high and the story as always is great too making us smile and awaken visions of some poor soul wandering in the desert after losing his poke. However as I remember the outskirts of Vegas, this doesn't really fit. And I'm glad. Wouldn't want to see it wasted on that hell hole.

that's why I said in my littel tale that it was the guys mirage LOL
you have given me such ahuge compliment, both for my notes but more the painting itself. Yes it was all done with twisted brush.so far the best program I've found, but I still can't use that flood filter that I have beeome so fond of from alot of the photgraphs on here. but I use litle filters in my paintings, but if caled for I will if I can find the right one to match. The city in the bakgound is a really cool brush caled ..what else, but city scape. Pretty cool you just make a line in the directions youwant the building and make it as tall or small as you want it, digital painting is way too cool LOL
thanks again trailblazer for such a fantastic review
