I am definitely not an artist but I had to comment on this painting. The background looks like a halo around the lion and that makes him really stand out. The shading of the mane clearly defines the head which is wonderful. The hair is shorter, the eyes angry. The nose is flared and of course the mouth wide open showing the teeth. I wouldn't want to meet him.Great job.

One of the nicest complements I've had on this piece. Most are;'t too thrilled with the background, but its the same one I used with my drauge piece, I sort of liked it myself LOL
Thank you again for such a wonderful complement

Very good painting, and use of medium. I love his expression and the mane really shows great brush strokes. I would have made the background shades of light blues like cobalt blue and cerulean blue mixed with white graduated to sap green and mixed with yellow graduated down to the bottom.to really pop him out of the canvas. I am a colorist and to me opposite coors really are essential to pop out the painting and make it more than 2 detentions. Now this is my preference. I still love the painting.

What a fantastic idea. Your color scheme seems almost too perfect. This is a background that I used for my drauge piece, same lions head but weird LOL..I liked how the background came out so I saved it, just couldn't come up with a background for just this lions head, wish I would have used your colors however, and of course I took it out of layers so I can't change it,[ normally I hang on to it for quite sometime before I delete it and of course someone comes up with the perfect back ground And I can't change it, guess I'll hold off the next time. LOL
Thank you so much for such a wonderful complement to this piece and your advice, mind if I come to you with other painting in the future, back grounds are one of the hardest ideas for me to choose if I'm painting only one object like this. Any help is always appreciated

He seems to be a nice guy, a Circus artist perhaps who roars for the job. His face still looks soft almost friendly even with that mouth wide open. Nothing wrong with it. Maybe I see a bit anger in his eyes. Perhaps he got just a bit angry because someone bit one of his ears of? I am not sure if that missing ear is a mistake or make the Lion unique. I see a poster in my mind: come to the Circus! See Pasha the famous One-Eared-Lion in his spectacular performance!

I like your painting just the way it is. It's you VanGogh Lion. The missing ear makes the painting great. I love your brushstrokes with the fur. This is a great example of texture in a work of art. The simulated texture of the fur makes me think it's just so soft. Great job!

You just gave my painting a new name LOL I had to mention later on that his ear isn't missing its behind his fur, however I now like the thought of a one eared lion, guess it would make for a more unique painting.. ah! and noone else would have thought to paint a lion with only one ear unless there were two fighting LOL
thanks for the new name I love it LOL

This is incredible, your technique is superior now. The only thing I am curious about is where is the left ear? Or is this a Van Gogh type picture.

I used a few differnt photographs to get my sketch, in the one the I liked the most, the ear was barely seen behind the fur due to the growl, so thats what I did, I painited the ear, then added the fur in front of it, so no he's not a deaf lion he could still hear you coming LOL
your complments mean alot to me jim and I'm so glad you stop by to view my work. It means a great deal

Oh yeah! This made me sit up in my chair. The golden tones in the background are perfect. The details in the face are outstanding. I love the squint in his eyes as he lets out that thunderous roar. Excellent work!
