LOL, "...waiting for him to catch a fish.." I just found the comment amusing. Now wouldn't that have been the perfect photo. Too bad the big fellow was not paying attention. :0)
Technically -- the composition and the stop action of flight is very very nice. The reflection off the water adds a great effect. The focus, focal point, and clarity are great. The POV and angle worked out quite nicely. Colors are great.
What I like about the photo is the addition of the stump in the lower left, which gives me a feeling of the bird having just 'taken off." The expression of the bird is also fun (if birds have expressions).

Great stop motion shot.
The expression this bird has on take off is pure concentration.
The curving lines are very elegant.
The coloring and lighting work well.
May have left just a bit more of the tree stump in the shot, but not much.
