So when did the storm hit Cleo, see you have the reddish glow you described! What a stunning shot and the clouds seem to be coming out of the r.s. corner and giving the impression of movement toward the middle of the image! Lighting is incredible and the glow from the sun reaching out to the water! Excellent d.o.f. and beautiful clarity! Best of luck in the contest!

The storm hit less than a hour later. We could see the rain moving over water toward shore, but it got to dangerous to stay out and watch. It was a relative small storm followed by two more through the day. Thank you very much for your review.

The sky in this photo looks fantastic. The combination of golden hues and deep purple is spectacular in contrast the deep gray cloud formations near the horizon. The light is awesome and is so nicely reflected in the sea.

The silhouette from the boat is standing out so sharp against all this glory and adds interest to this scene. I think this must be one of the most fantastic sunrises I have ever seen. It looks like the sky is on fire. This for sure tell us about a storm arriving.

I think your POV was perfect and I like that the boat is sitting off to one side. The only thing you need to do with this photo is to level the horizon, because it is pity that a triviality like that should ruin an otherwise excellent shot. I have decided not to reduce stars over this issue, because I am sure I am not the first to mention it, and I am also sure you will fix it. The DOFF is excellent in this photo.

No, you are not the first one, but to level that horizon is evidently much harder than it seems. I was not able to do it. There is no real line to go by do to haze and clouds. That is already the third version. Somebody who tried to level it for me said the whole picture seems full of optical illusions. Somebody else said to low on the right. After lifting it only two degrees I got even more people seeing a crooked horizon. Somebody else worked on leveled it for me, said it is absolutely level now. That's the version currently shown but still people say the horizon is not level. I gave up. I have given up on that one. Should have posted one of the other photos, but this one has the best of the color.
Thank you for your throughout review. :-)

You are most welcome. I have problems understanding why this photo should be more difficult to level than others though.

The difficulty seems to lay mostly in my bad eyes I tought, but account to others it seems to be a haze which obscures features as the horizon line. I have the post exchanged to a version somebody with better eyes than mine levelled. I hope that helps.

What a sunrise over the rippled water casting the sky's reflection over it.

The silhouette of trees and cloudy sky makes the afore mentioned more beautiful.

Having the opportunity to capture on film is very nice for you.

There are some lovely colours in this image, mostly towards the top of the frame, but overall I feel this has been manipulated too much. The colours don't look natural any more. I think your horizon could be a little crooked, but it is hard to tell as it disappears into darkness. I like the light on the water and your subtle vignette.

Thank you for your review and your input, through it upset me very much, that you evidently think I am a liar. This photo is not manipulated! Why should I manipulate one of the scientific acknowledged Light Phenomena? If I manipulate photos I write it clearly in my notes and call the pictures mixed media. Slight enhancement means exactly what it says. The colors are NOT enhanced at all. The only thing I did was to gave 0.4% more light, because the picture was to dark. I could have done it with the camera but I was unable to reset the camera in time. My pictures of this particular Phenomenon and other Light- and cloud phenomena [iridescence in clouds, sun dogs, halos, mirage, etc] are published and some of them were featured on the NASA site Earth Science, on the Weather channel and on wunderground weather. Do you really believe These institutions would publish any of my photos if they would be manipulated?

You are taking my comments far too seriously my dear. It is only my opinion. I'm sure you are a very accomplished photographer, as you say. Michele

Yes I do; I tought comments have to be taken seriously :-). I admit to overreacting each time I am accused of lying or manipulating. I was tought as kid that the only real deadly sin is lying. I did not grow up in the free world, but in a political system based on lies.
reply by PhotoVision on 27-Apr-2012
I did not at all think you were lying, I was simply giving my opinion. :) Take care, Michele

This is an awesome picture the way you took it. The coloring in this is stunning. I like the way you see the yellow and red in the sky and clouds. I like the way you just see the boat in the picture. too. Everything about this picture is excellent.
