I don't think I've seen a heron with the feathers so separated as this ones is..guess it's the shaking off.
wonderful view of his feathers, their blue color and his head with its markings.
Love the colors of bird and water, the ripples in the water, the POV.
great light
nice focus on the feathers.

OMG you can see the feathers so clearly on the back of his head. Beautiful photograph. Focus and clarity are great, as are the composition and colors. Thank you for sharing your beautiful photograph.

Fabulous subject Willie, and very well composed. I really like the way he has perched himself on the stump, with his wings slightly stretched out. He also contrasts well with the slightly out of focus background. Great focus, exposure and DOF. As a former union organiser I get very angry when I hear about workers of long standing bein g mistreated, but you are proibably now in your element. I have a Lumix GF1, which is similar to your Olympus E3, they are really a great size camera. I still get nostalgic about my old Olympus OM 10, which was a super camera. Anyway, great photo, hope you sell millions.

Thank you so very much! I had been there too long. I was at the top of the pay grade and at the top for vacation. They wanted me to go but was to low to lay me off. I was old enough to get my 401k so what the heck! Now I am doing what I have always wanted to do. I will start drawing social security this year. I call the guys sometimes and rub it in! I don't know anything about the Lumix but the Olympus is a great camera. I spent a lot of money getting it and the lenses so I am married to it now. Thanks again!

Both cameras are almost identical in features. I took my Lumix on a 4 month holiday to the Northern Hemisphere last year and took over 10,000 photos, it was great not having a great big heavy camera to carry around,as the Lumix will do virtually everything a Canon or Nikon SLR will do. The Olympus is much the same.

excellent clarity - love the green water and his vibrant, detailed feathers, but my favorite feature is him in this pose. who sees a heron shake to get water off of it? who would think to capture it? lighthearted shot. thank you for taking it and sharing it.

These are one of my all time favorite birds! Like me, they always seem to have SOMETHING out of place..even when they are not wet! LOVE that background, really makes the colors pop. Donkeyoatey

Thank you so very much! They are my favorite too! About a half mile from my home on an old creek away from all people in the heavy forest is twelve nests and 24 birds. I went down there two days ago and heard a lot of racket. It is very hard to get any shots because of all the leaves. The ground was white with heron poop! There is also a lot of stinging nettles too! If I had the nerve I would climb one of the huge sycamore trees so I could see better but 62 years has taken the nerve out of me and I'm not sure it was there anyhow! All these birds are taking turns coming to this lake to feed. I just wish the fishermen would stay at home as the boats keep the birds stirred up.

Wait til you see the little ones..they click! You arelucky to have found a heron condo you can get to without a boat! I am jealous! Donkeyoatey

I have to cross a creek. As long as the water is down. I can get to them.

Very interesting shot. The bird looks so well balance on
The ragged top of the tree stump. The bird is set off nicely against the green water. Well done.

The subject does look a little scrubby, otherwise this is a great photo. You have a magnificent collection of BLUE HERON photos. Great work. willie.
