This bird is nicely done. I actually like the low light as it accentuates the beak and makes it more of a prominent aspect of the photo as well as the tidbit of red in the neck area. The eye has a nice glow to it as well.

I love how you did this, I'm no photogragher, but you really did a great job, I like the lighting, showing the beak, so brightly colored, and the feathers, you can see every detail. To me, this would make a great painting. nicely done.

A perfect portrait of this lovely lady. All of your techs are right on the money Willie, and catching her with the dark background emphasizes her beautiful smoky coloring. A well composed image.

it's an endearing composition. I like its subject matter, its beak and eye, positioning, exposure, light and shade contrast, color blend, and the neutral, background which enhances the presence and singularity of the bird. Excellent cropping choice. I love it.

Willie, she's too young for you, find someone your own age!

You are such a master when it comes to images of birds (um err and faces, and capturing emotions, and bugs, and...)

This upload again shows us your artistry. You left her plenty of room to peck, but I wonder with a touch closer crop on the left, if that would have brought her in closer to us on a more intimate level? I know it's the call of the artist....a more intimate shot versus room to peck and be free.

Look at the very bottom of your image in the corner of the left side...see it? A little blob which is really slight but in a National Geographic Bird Photo Contest that would cost you the difference between a win and a loss.

I do like the composition with her peeking in from the side, rather shyly yet connecting with us by her eye contact with your lens and us.

I also love the light or rather that deep shade effect as it seems to magnify her beauty by complimenting her colouring and her lip gloss just seems to shine out.

Did you use a filter as her feathering almost looks like what I use to do a linear burn?

Technically nothing to fault you on...you are a master and we all have come to recognize that through your wonderful postings of nature's beauty that abounds in Kentucky.

PS When you uploaded this image what pixels did you use....under 700 or over? I'm having trouble with my large uploads showing soft and Tom suggested I use small pixels....I have and it doesn't work.
