A fine piece of artwork, and a fine tribute to the military men and women who continue to serve this country. Thanks to all of them and thanks to you for remembering them in this way. There is no more to say.

Giving my last big star award to this one. The men who serve and have served and their families sacrifice so much to protect people they don't know and sometimes don't even agree with. I like your cartoons but hope you do more of this also.

Having watched the documentary film about Iwo Jima I immediately recognised your portrayal of the event. It was interesting to read your in depth account which adds to the poignancy of your painting. I like the way you have changed the aspect showing the men climbing the hill looking down on them rather than the usual portrayal of looking up towards them. The image is clear, bright and captures the recreation of the 2nd hoisting of the flag after all the bullets had stopped flying. Thanks for sharing

Five star for five fighters fervently, fearlessly, forcefully, fighting for Fatherland from foes!
Alliteration always amaze amateur artists.
These gentle looking comrades whose countenances can't seem to kill a mosquito in the war zone, actually defended our country from foreign intruders. They even liberated us from the Japanese.
That's why every 4th of July we celebrate Fil-Am Friendship Day to commemorate the momentous event.
Thanks for sharing.

i was trying to create a tired look..these guys were exhausted and remember..the raising of the flag happen after the battle. yessir, i remember my dad talking about how tough the phillipino fighters were..japanses could never shake the freedom fighters before the americans came back. thanks for the good review.

Everyone is your photos owns some sort of self power, spirit or as John Wayne would say True Grit. Again another great image well done.

Humans are so tough and I think you did a very good job with a great subject. I think where this piece could have been improved would be in the background. The smoke needs a lite medium and dark contrast but I only see the dark and middle. nice job good luck.

thanks david..unlike your medium mine is the complete opposite to execute as well as color available..as a matter of fact why dont you buy a pack of sharpie pens(not any other brand ) and show me how i should do it..wink. thanks for the review.

It wasn't meant to hurt it was meant to help. Like I said I think you did a great job... My opinion is that its too much grey.. maybe some of the blue coming through some of that grey would have balanced the piece more... People have already ripped my painting to pieces, but I have learned in my very short art career of nine months that art should be what you like not what anyone else thinks.. No offense its just one man's opinion. Good Luck to you.

lol..oh gracious..nope not mad im just to the point..unlike other artist my medium is very limited and have to make do with colors available..being that the smoke off in the distant is representing a oil like fire that find in wartime that is why its as thick as it is.but like you said its from the artist intentions and the viewers opinion just same ole same ole..but no..not mad..i have just learned when people tell me what i need to do, my 1st reaction is i have been working with sharpie for about 4 decades now..how long have youworked with sharpie and can i see your sharpie work?..you cant compare one medium to the other as you should know..but not offended...just to the point..thanks for the time.

I am really glad you didn't take that the wrong way. We are both people that are very much to the point. I had no idea it was a sharpie piece. I am new to the site and don't even know where to look for the medium. My brother is a famous artist with Disney and he is very tough on me, perhaps I was a little too opinionated... the two things he preaches to me every time he sees my work is balance and light to medium to dark. The only sharpie work I have was signing balls as a baseball player. Bad back equals time to start painting. Thank God I didn't become an art critic. Have a great night and best of luck to you.

hey its no prob..try hat i gone thru the decades statements like "hey good drawing, so when are you gonna do some real artwork?" im like this is real artwork..of course they refer to every medium out there but sharpie of course..you know whats really sad though thru the decades you would think that sanford corp(sharpie) would capitlize on this..nope they only acknowldge kids who like to draw their name and really can care less of anything else..now im competing with computers..makes me knuckle under and push the sharpie pens as far as i can take them..have a great night!

Agreed... I am an oil painter and I have to compete with other artists that take a photo and have a special printer that writes in oil paint. Using photoshop they can create anything and sell it as original in 10 minutes. My paintings take a week to make sometimes. Or they use projectors to outline their painting. Then spray-paint it in. Trust me we are in the same boat. Bed time. I changed the score I gave you earlier because of the difficulty of your medium. Much respect. kaz.
