i like the selective color as well. It draws me immediately into the photo.
She wears a white cap, and an old fashinoned dress. Perhaps she is Amish, or of some sect?
I like the black and whites, the way she looks up as she smells the rose, the light and shadow on her and her dress, how much of the frame she occupies.
Good exposure, and composition.
good focus.
Interesting and a unique choice for a flower contest.

This is one of those photos where using the selective coloring provides a great dramatic effect! Photographically, it's a great picture, but the coloring is what makes it pop! Thank you for sharing!

Nice shot and post photo editing. I like the expression on the girls face, Like the last goodbye. The red rose shows up well with the dark colors. Well done!

This is an interesting shot, black in black with the red rose - you cached very well the inner happiness of this woman - apart of her grief the flower lets her eyes shine - love for life (red) is kind like message. The white hat is the light in this picture - good ideas of modifications I just would have let a bit more contrast of colors between the left shoulder and the background - it is losing the line, may be on purpose - this is a question of taste but very well worked out

I agree. I think the use of selective color was an excellent creative decision.
Unfortunately, you can barely discern the woman. You are shooting in very uneven mid day light. If you have Photoshop, I would consider going to Adjustments and choosing Shadow/highlight at it's default setting. Using that will allow you to see her face without burning it out. It will not alter your difficult light pattern but it will most decidedly help your image. I wish you well in the contest. Bren
I think it is definitely improved. I did it but my version has more light. Sometimes it is a matter of how your screen is calibrated. If you repeat the action it will do away with even more of the shadows, which i think is nice because her expression is very appealing. It also reveals the blurred highlight behind her on the left which lends definition to her arm and body. If it would help I would be happy to send you the version I got but since this is a contest, I am not sure how to do that. If i did you could at least tell if it is your screen or your settings. Still I think it is vastly improved, mine is just brighter. Let me know, if you do it again you can always use a layer mask to take out what you don't like or you can just reduce the opacity of the effect on your duplicate layer until it suits you. Sorry to be so long. Bren

I changed the backgound and used the shadow/highlight. I also did a tighter crop. Would you take a look at it and see if it looks better. You are such a big help.

Yes. I will take a look now. Bren

I am a very big fan of selective color. Technically, well done in that there is no color bleed off (e.g. bad masking). I just wonder if the red for a rose is kind of cliche and something else is needed.
