The dull day sure help to produce the great color. Sorry I can not help with the name. Your presentation seems to give the paper like look. Very nicely done!

Really nice shot. I love the vivid colours of the flower and the texture detail you have captured on the petals. The depth of field is really good too.

Nice colours but on this type of close-up your focus has to be spot on. The stamen and some of the petals are blurred.

It is a lovely bloom. Great form to it and the crinkled paper feeling is very attractive. Great colors throughout. Purple is my favorite! Looks like you have done a softening on the edges and it is coming onto the petal edges, I think it would be stronger if the entire bloom was crisp.

Thanks so much, think the softening occured from aperture used. Normally use different setting for closeup but liked the overall effect for this one.

Very different petals indeed. I am not sure what it is either. I did a little looking in my books but the only purple flower I can find with wrinkled leaves is Purple Loosestrife but the petals are long and pointed and the center is different.
Be careful when taking macros of the very short depth of field. This would be better if the whole blossom was in focus.
Fair focus
Good lighting
Good composition
Good initial impact
Good center of interest
Good overall presentation

By the way if you haven't purchased Photoshop Yet let me recommend Lightroom especially if you are only shooting JPEG. It will give you great editing capabilities. If you need to do more creative editing as in Picknik also purchase Photoshop Elements the two together are cheaper than CS# and unless you are doing graphic design and professional work you really don't need all the extra features that CS# offers. If you want me to elaborate on my reasons send me a message.
Thanks for sharing. Dave

Thanks Dave, I appreciate your feedback. Yes my daughter gave me a copy of CS# and I find it too confusing so have stuck with using Picasa. Should seriously look at something else so your advice is timely, think I will have a closer look at Lightroom. Cheers Mary
