I really like this shot because the blossom is only partly open. It still looks so compact-with the expectation that it will open fully. Nice lighting and angle to the photo. JD

I like how the sun is lighting it up and the vibrant yellow of the flower is glowing in the darkness of the b/g. I find the focus a tad soft though, but in all a nice shot Mary:)

This flower is used a lot for dried arrangements and by florists. It has petals which look like straw and also feel like straw. I do know its name but cannot remember how to spell it! Like the single bloom in the frame with a dark background. Lighting is very good too. Focus is a bit soft on the centre of the bloom though and this is where it should be sharp. Soft petals caused by shallow depth of field are fine.

Thanks Susan, appreciate your feedback. Xerochrysum bracteatum, more commonly known as straw flower overseas but in Australia we call it everlasting daisy :)

It the way you have used the light in this one Mary that is the winner for me.

Those contrasts of light and dark really do work by showing all the shapes and contours of those petals.

Love those yellows and the blackness of the background works in it favour.

the lighting is soft and gentle presenting beautiful color and contrast of the petals, and shadow. clarity is well done in composing a goo dimagery. BEV

This is a beautiful shot of the flower. You have framed it well. Light and sharpness are very effective in creating a lovely capture. Good effort!

Thanks so much Beny loved the lighting on this one but was bit annoyed with myself for framing top so tight - still we learn from our mistakes. Cheers Mary

Gorgeous lighting and colour on this one. I love the black background so nothing distracts the eye. Four stars only because a little more space at the top of the picture would have been nice, but other then that, perfect!
