Great detail in this, from his beautiful red eye to every feather and striking markings on his beak and what looks like a little beard under his eak. Against the soft green background he really stands out. Well shot

Eileen,
A beautiful profile portrait of this juvenile Black Crowned Heron with one amber eye watching you closely its beautiful "cafe au lait" & white coloured plumage all puffed up. Taken with superb camera techniques & razor sharp focus.

Really a nice clear shot with muted background. The blue in the beak is nice, but the eye is beautiful. A very good job. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent image of this young Heron. Eileen.
Shot with beautiful detail and set against a very flattering blur of color that sets him off well.
His feathers still have that downy baby look to them and you have shot him so well, I can really feel their soft furry touch

Oh Wow! I got a couple of shots of an adult from my trip but I have never seen a Juvie before. There is that recognizable red eye though!
Initial impact: 5
Composition/Balance: 5 Love the tight crop, head shot portrait style. Great pov, perfect silhouette.
Exposure/Lighting/Contrast: 5
Beautiful lighting, must have been dim since your ISO is so high but it doesn't look it. I'm going to have to look into Topaz a bit.
Background/Isolation of key subject: 5 Perfect blurring of the background to make this guy or girl jump right off the page
Saturation/Color Harmony: 5 The earth tones behind compliment but don't compete.
Lines, texture, pattern: 5 The texture of the feathers is amazing!
Overall Interest: 6! Unusual sight as these guys are usually nocturnal.
Technical excellence: 5
Story telling ability: 5 He looks like he is keeping an eye on you!
WOW factor: 5

Yea, but Cassandra, how do you REAlly feel about it? LOL! Wow, thanks so much.. on the D7000 the ISO can go VERY high without hurting the photo. As a matter of fact, you almost always have too. Love this camera. the settings are much different than regular Nikons. Took me a while to figure it out, but with Sanges's very patient help, I am getting there :)

I can see that Sange has been a good teacher, because this is really a lovely photo of this young bird. The background is perfect with green and grey shades and perfectly softened. The head of the bird is standing out from it in the most excellent way.
Your focus is spot on showing clear and well defined details in the feathers, and especially the bright and shiny eye is standing out well. The exposure is just perfect.
The tight framing works well and the bird is well placed within the frame. This is indeed an excellent shot and the DOFF is perfect. Since this photo is part of the six star book, I suppose I have to give you one. LOL
