I immediately saw a kneeling/praying red figure in the center - bloody? The lightning bolt at the rear is perplexing, as I thought it was portraying this figure as a praying devil at first, but your description in the notes makes me think otherwise. I see a gray-jacketed figure upper right reaching down to the red figure and other vague faces in upper third of frame. Around the edges - sundial, sink (or soap dish?), a swirling void, a musical clef and lots of different patterns.

a very powerful piece! the colors, shapes, patterns all work together well to convey your message. i know you have lost much but you create much now. who knows if your art would be so powerful if it did not come from such a deep place inside of you? "tis the dark that makes the light so bright" keep going bertoli. there are those of us who hear you and care.

yes, when I was at art college they said, show me the crucified man and I will show you the artist- however, whilst studying Art History I found more to my taste, a Rumanian artist who said- the artist has to be in touch with his community, or he is a mere designer- thank you

I am not quite ascertaining any feeling of terror, despite the fact that i like this. I have temporal lobe seizures and experience a terror more profound than can be described....terror is just not orange or green or baby blue. But i still love this.

crouched- my memories of coming West, malnitrition, homes, childhood rape etc are orange, green and blue, there are different types of terror-- thank you

I suppose perception is always personal, so I will grant that terror can be visualized in different colors. I was thinking more along the lines of classical cultural symbolism...orange is vital and joyful, green is fertile and healthy, blue means peace and truth.
And there is no need to be defensive or rude, even in a passive aggressive sarcastic way. I spent much of my childhood locked in a closet without light or food, so tell you do not need to educate me about malnutrition, rape and terror...

I am never rude, not even in what way you thought it to be, sarcasm is so far removed from what my personality type is, I was merely telling you what the picture OF MY LIFE was about, not making comparisons with anyone else. Cultural norms are all different. I am sorry you had such a bad time in life- I am a teacher now, so deal with many different types of personalities constantly- about colours, I do not seem to remember anyone at Art college telling me that this colour denotes this or that, merely that the English tend to like darker colours -

I paint as I feel, not by any prescribed method- I do not sell, as it is not my bread and butter, which is teaching so can please myself.
reply by princessbubblegum on 19-May-2013
Nobody, mostly me, can tell you how to paint. But certainly you can participate in a mere discussion without such defensiveness? As a teacher, should you not be open to the exchange of ideas? I am not telling you how to envision life. I am not telling you how to express yourself or what to paint. Paint unicorns farting rainbows for all i care! I was only attempting to discus art with you. And, just so you are aware...you are VERY defensive and subliminally antagonistic.

More great details in this drawing. My eyes are drawn to the figure in the center of the drawing and the colors all work so well together.
