Nice flair for the dramatic with the lusage of teh side lighting.

Although the lighting is from the side, nice eye catch light and good job of picking up the beak.

The lighting does an excellent job of picking up modeling and helps to give a nice three dimensional effect.

Like the composition and this one does excellent story telling although the story is on the sad side. In your image, the sadness comes through.

Nice sharpness, dynamic range and that spot of color does wonders.

Said I would do an update.

A very sweet shot of this barred owl. The look he is giving is priceless with the catch light in his right eye making it look like he is about to cry. I agree with you...this is one of the lucky one's in a way though as hundreds of owls are euthanized because their injuries are too severe to let them be released and not enough educational homes.

Eileen, this is a touching photograph, Very nicely done with tremendous color and detail. You have captured a sad look in his eyes that should be on an advertising poster for animal welfare. If a picture says a hundred words, this one speaks volumes.
