This is pretty cool! It has an almost abstract feel, yet is very real. It almost looks like a poster! Really nice tonal qualities of light in the reflections, and a great heron silhouette. I wish you all the best in the contest..have you moved yet? DonkeyOatey

What I like best about this photo is the contrast between the warm golden colors reflected in the lake and the cool blue tones of the bird. This has a dramatic and striking effect. I also like very much the pose of the bird.
It is standing out sharp and well defined against the background, and it is a very special light in this photo. Personally I would probably have added just a tad more highlights to the head of the bird since it is sitting so much in the dark.
This is also a well composed photo where the bird is nicely placed off to the right. Well taken photo with an excellent DOFF. I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you so very much! I did highlight him but did not look good to me. I considered making it a complete silhouette but settled for it as is.

You always seam to get the birds to perform for you at just the right time. Good thing you had the orange behind him or you would not get such a good picture. I'm sure the low light was a challenge to over come. Great shot.

Even though to me he is a little out of focus the dramatic colors compensate fro that, they are rich and a life with vibrancy and the ripple textures. The balance between him and the negative space is very good,and him being in the cooler color range against the oranges makes for a very dramatic visual image.
