This is indeed a beautiful shot of a female cardinal but you said this is micro and you cropped it? So this is straight out of the camera except adjusting contrast. I looked at all the other entries in the contest and frankly yours sticks out like a sore thumb. It is as I said a beautiful work in photography worthy of a six but I believe there is more in this shot then meets the eye. Sorry. My rating won't matter as the lowest will be cast out.

Thank you! I use good equipotent and get very good detail with it. I was about four feet away using a 300mm lens. I cropped it because the top notch was out of the frame. This looks better. You say it sticks out like a sore thumb...not Sure whether this is a compliment or what. What I said is true. With good light and knowing how to adjust the contrast and brightness makes a big difference. I know you don't know me but if you could look at my portfolio you will see other shots like this with the same adjustments.

The first thing that grabs my attention is the colour of the beak, then the sparkle in the eye. The detail is macro sharp with a soft Dof which highlights the head . You have managed to capture so much detail, the fine hairs, the sunflower seed shell all add up to a job well done. thanks for sharing

This should be a six/star but I only have a five/star left. The focus seems better than almost any picture I have seen on this site. The colors are vivid and amazing. You framed it great, and captured the food in it's mouth. It is awesome in all regards.
