Nice stop of this action! Well captured with perfect timing! I love this coming toward me view of the great blue heron with its fish! Awesome show of the motion on the water! Well focused, the image is clear, exposure is well managed ,colors and tones are natural. Well composed and presented!

What is doing this photo so special compared to other photos of birds in flight, is that the bird is flying towards you, and of course also that it has a fish in its beak. It is an excellent stop action in this shot, and the splashes of water are captured so well. Even reflections from this can be seen.
Your focus is spot on and sharp showing clear and well defined details in the bird, and I also like very much the way the light is falling on him.
I am sitting here wondering what could ever be wrong with this photo, and I have come to the conclusion that the bird is probably placed too much in the middle of the frame. I actually think the photo would be even better balanced if you had cropped a bit more at the top. Still this is an all together excellent shot, and I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you so very much for you opinion and comments. I have my crop set on 18x24 and this is as close as I could get it. I could however not crop at all. These birds have such a huge wing span that it takes up a lot of space. I have been very busy and have had very little time to be here. I have about eighty messages to go through. LOL! I have a bunch to do. Again I thank you!

I don't have any set crop at all, and crop all my photos different every time. If you have eighty messages to go through, I almost feel sorry for you. LOL

I always set the crop for the 18x24. I learned the hard way. When you go to get big prints it has to be set or you won't get the right size.
I have more than 80 now. I may be busy for a while! LOL!
