Snowbound Alpine Village

Yes, of course we feel a cold feeling when looking at this piece. Not only because of the snow or the colour blue but also it is dark and dismal looking like a cold January day up north.

I love the hues of magenta and cyan and how used your medium to build up the paint and show shadow play. The light source is felt and we see it falling from upper left aspect of your canvas onto the top of the snow mounds in the foreground.

The only constructive criticism I can give you are those green windows staring at me boldly. Why did you make them green when orange/yellow/copper tones give warmth and a warm feeling emanating from the inside of that building would have had a stronger impact.....?

Dimensional aspects/perspective well done. The art is well composed with attention to tonal quality, tones, shapes and that slant of hill in the background right side gives a lot of visual impact and tells the story of your village being buried ....somewhere in the Alps.

Many thanks for your detailed review. The green was actually yellow when I painted it but for some reason dried greenish. Don't know why! But I agree. Suzanne

It's like the world has frozen over for the winter. Great deep, blue sky and the glistening of the snow is so nice. I love the texture on the houses in the foreground. Gives me shiver! Great work!

A very clever composition which truly gave me the shivers. I dont think it helped as we have snow further down the island here in NZ. I love the somber color and positioning of the houses gaining in size as they move nearer. The intense blue sky is a great angle to show off the subject.

This so reminds me of my skiiing days, great memories , in particular of the time I went to Val D'Isere in France with my son. Not so much snow as this , being the end of the season , nonetheless we stayed in an alpine village just like this.
Lovely image with well rendered snow, certainly lots of it, and the blue sky gives an invigorating and cheerful feel to the scene.
Well done and good luck.

Well it was almost 100 degrees here yesterday, so that snow looks real good. We had Arthur blow in Thursday afternoon. Good times!
Love the snow with hints of blue highlights.
Nice wintery scene here Suzanne.
Fab work!

This one is fantastic and the cold just seems to flow out of your frame - amazing composition with a beautiful village that seem to be frozen under hard weather conditions in deep winter times

super color choice to create the snow is all these fine details and nuances that reflect inside of this white mass - your sky blue is perfectly chosen, in wintry cold tone - handsome details work on the houses and a very nice way to create the feeling of a warm inside of these homes -
a very lovely work, super use of space, nice scene, great initial impact and super contest entry , all the best of luck

A well rendered pic here and certainly a sense of 'coldness' is very evident...could make the lid of a lovely box of biscuits/chocs...Lovely...Cheers

Snow in July. That would be a welcome relief. I love the white snow contrast against the sapphire/royal blue sky
and the dark weathered homes. I like the different dimension's of snow drifts. Thanks for cooling us off on the 4th of July!

It definitely meets the criteria for the art. A great piece of art, and I believe I would be snowbound if I was there. I like the green windows showing a light is on. Great, great job.
