The B&W works well for this shot. It brings out the details that might otherwise be lost. Nice shot of the ape pondering something. Good composition, sharp focus. Well seen.

A quite nice entry into the competition posted here! Not sure I would associate that grimace with a smile! Your fine image benefits from having a good and off-centre composition, with good exposure and sharpness. Well done and good luck!

This is s super photograph of this gorrilla. He or is it a she has a very interesting expression and smile the focus is good and capture of fine detail evident. The black and white is perfect for the subject and should do well. Good luck.

To answer your question. I believe the look is friendly and observing and I have the a bit sad. I am not sure why, but the Gorilla looks lonely to me, almost as if Ape wants to communicate, but sadly misses the human organs to do so.
The monochromatic emphasizes this impression. The photo is well focused, showing well defined detail of body and hair. The photo has good exposure. The gorilla is perfectly placed into the frame. The composition is balanced.

I can imagine they can get lonely, especially if they are not born in the zoo. I'm sure they have some memories of the life before the zoo. Thanks Cleo.

I really think the B&W was a perfect choice to render this handsome Gorilla, he is well placed in the frame, well focused, the image is clear, exposure is managed well, his expression to me is that he is actually pondering something. Well composed and presented!

This is an AMAZING shot! Her facial expression is not only very touching, but reminds us all about the beauty of this extremely strong and gentle creatures, which for ages have been illegally poached by furtive hunters. She has this pensive glance which commands love, compassion and understanding from us ungrateful humans. Thanks for allowing us the honor to share this with you!
Regards
