I love this. The whole Gibson Girl look has always been my favorite era. The intricacies of her hair and the soft light in her eyes and smile on her face. You have captured her perfectly.

This is a beautiful piece. I do have some questions for you... You did this from an old photo, yes? How large is this piece? Is this just pencil or did you use a charcoal pencil? What is the darkest HB pencil you used? You lose me around the eyes also the back of the neck is light yet your hair disappears there as if it is in shadow.

The picture is 8x10. I did use an old photo for reference. I only use a mechanical pencil and a blending stub.

Wow. Never thought to draw with a mechanical pencil I will have to check it out. I have posted a portrait I did of M.M. But used three mediums to get the depth of darks. And a blending stub along with a kneade eraser to enhance the lights. I do admire this portrait of Emily and have learned from it. Thank you for your reply.

Amazing as usual. I didn't think you could possibly get any better with your pencil, but I believe I see yet more excellence in this one. It truly looks like an old b&w photo from the 1920's. You are my idol. :D

I am stunned at how soft the pencil work is, this is so well drawn, and the details, theres is an old time phot feel to this. Amazing! I love the sly look on her face, the details are increadable.

Beautiful and so classic. Love the demure and conservative look and outfit. Very defined textures, especially the hair. Prominent facial expression and features. Great use of light and dark shades. Drawn with great expertise. A beauty to behold.

Lovely work, Linda, great job with the tonal gradation and the backlit effect. I love these ladies from era gone by. Soft sepia feel to this work consistent with the subject matter! Lovely! jean

Dear Jean, thank you for the 5 1/2 stars. It is so fun drawing women from this era. There is just a softness and womanly ness.

Beautifully done, Linda. I am amazed at how well you have made this look like an old time photograph. Equally amazing are the nuances of detail among all the black in her hair and ribbon. Wonderfully rendering of light and shadow especially around her face profile. Another top notch creation, my friend.

P.S Please keep me up to date as you can on how Alyssa and Bailey are doing. I am praying all will go well for them both. Ed.
