I do like your composition and the use of shadow for his eyes. The one thing that caught my eye and drew me away from the rest of the fact was the dark section on the lower cheeks. The darker corners are a nice touch but the the dark area along the bottom, to me, is a distraction. Children make great models when they don't know they are the subject of a photo!

Candid shots can be the most rewarding as is this one.
