Unamused ... and as she lived in the age of Queen Victoria then this may well have been a standard look while sitting for portraits! A lovely painting and a close copy to the original. Check out the lithograph of Clara Wieck (her maiden name) by Andreas Staub, Vienna 1838. I think the picture you saw was a colored version of the litho. Lovely work. Thank you for sharing.

Thank you very much for your kind revive, for the suggested emotion and especially for the tip about the Staub painting. This helps a lot.

Lovely portrait. Good skin tone and pleasant facial expression. Nice highlights in her hair and light in her eyes. Nicely framed with good visual impact. Well done. ~Alveria

Simply stunning work, Cleo, amazingly it appears to be painted on canvas! I am not familiar with the reference photos of this person, but you must have held quite true to the original. THis would be a portrait category, possibly you refer to the Expressive art, but I think this more of more a traditional portrait! In any case, it is possibly your most perfect work and over the top good! jean

    Thank you Jean!
Such a favorable review and six golden stars! This means a lot to me.
Thank for saying it looks painted. That is what I try to archive whith hundreds of brush strokes. Still I am cheating most the time, because I scratch everything out on paper and than use the scratches as reference. I don't think that anybody elseon FAR paint with the same media and in the same style I do. Years ago, when digital pinting was young, there were sevel of us on FAR, but they left because back than any digital painting was second hand, not really art for the Far artists. We wasn't even alowed in art contests. Than everything turnt 180 degrees, all the easy programs emerged. Now I am often told by digital artists, that the ArtRage program is way to complicated and time consuming. I don't think so.
My painting is not perfect, I am still learning, and experimenting with the media.
There are no photos of Clara Schumann, just a few paintings. She lived before the time of photography [1819-1896].
There is no potrait cathegory for digital art. The subtitle is "potrait". I refaired to Expression in the comments, because I planned originally to put it into the Expression contest.

Well, it is quite stunning, I may one day try the digital painting although a couple of sites I am on only allow natural media artwork. You have a God given gift for this! jean

Thanks again so very much. Maybe I got the talent for digital because I am forbidden to work with most traditional media. There is always a Yin and Yang in life.
I know many traditional artists dislike digital, sometimes I feel homeless. The Art galeries won't let me in because I am Digital and the Digital sites won't let me in because I am to traditional and do not use their programs.

Very nicely done portrait, your facial features and very well done and the skin tones are lovely. Nice framing. I find it amazing that this is digitally painted. Very well done.

Hi Cleo,

This is an excellent oil work which harks back to 18th century portraiture. Well done on achieving this effect and thanks for sharing! R

I am not sure that I can pin point any particular expression to the picture, perhaps a bit of "finish-this-painting-already-I-am-bored" expression. Beautifully soft colors and presentation. Thanks for sharing Cleo.

You might be right. Who like to sit for a portrait, except professional models?

A very clever digital artwork Cleo. I love the soft tones and you have really captured a thoughtful expression and a rather haunting beauty. The facial features are particularly well done.

Thoughtful - that would have been the right title for the contest. Why didn't I think for that?

This is very reminiscent of Victorian era, or just European royalty typical, type of portraits. It is a lovely piece that really seems to capture the distinctions and detail needed to be considered such a classy piece!
