Great catch on this elusive guy, the initial impact for me did not work. Not sure if this is straight from your camera but the composition would have worked better if the whole bird was in the frame. Nice birdseye contact and good detail. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the very nice narrative on this cute little guy. Sounds like a wonderful bird to have around your home to control the creepy crawly critters. Good focus and frame to show the long legged details.

It is a strange looking bird, but kind of cute as well. What is so great about this site is that you see photos of birds you have not even heard about. I think the background works well but the blown out light spots are quite distracting. Perhaps you could do some cloning to cover them.
I also think the focus on the bird is a tad soft, but it is most of all the bright spot just above the beak resulting in loss of details.
When it comes to the composition the framing is a bit too tight, and it is unfortunate that the back part of the bird is cut off by the frame. A lovely photo but in need of some adjustments.
