Thank you for your excellent artist notes. Your capture has held its importance through time. And it is just as beautiful today as when you shot it. Your artistic perspective is dynamic and very interesting to study...with the architecture of the memorial framing the flag. Your colors are magnificent...with just enough light on those white/grey beams above your camera position. And I must congratulate you on keeping this shot level. I always look for the level horizontal or vertical lines in a composition. Nice job with the flagpole here! A pleasure to view. Thank you for this poignant composition.

Oh my, thank for your walk through my portfolio to find this image! I'm glad you like it. I appreciate your in depth comments as well. It was a bitter sweet moment, to be at the site where so many of our country's sailors perished. It was like walking into a church and I almost felt uneasy about photographing the visit. I must start out by telling you that back in June of 2004, you finished a dream of mine that I started back in 1986. Let me explain....In 1986 my girlfriend/co worker went on an 8 day vacation to Hawaii. When we went to see the USS Arizona Memorial, I wanted so badly to try to capture a photo of the flag by looking through the structure. The breeze was not cooperative and nor could I get that correct angle from where I was...trying to get close enough and the right area in order to capture that flag most perfectly. I could never make it happen. I tried for as long as I could, but had to leave without that final capture. Today, as I look at your photograph made the rest of my dream come true. The flag being at half mast was the answer to my question I had back in 1986. Thank you. It is most stunning. Quite dramatic. And boy does it have stories to tell. Overall job is more than colossal. Everything about this photo is simply outstanding. good luck in the contest. You are a number one....or a tie for #1. Thanks for sharing.

Wow! That is quite a story, Schatzling, thank you for sharing it with me. Yes, the key to fitting the flag within the framework of the beams of the memorial was the fact that it was at half-mast.
