Great entry in the contest! A winning hand.. (Sorry couldn't resist!) Love the gravel back ground, looks like a back alley card game.
Colors and focus are fantastic.

Well done!

Even if I love to work with layers I have almost problems understanding that you needed as many as 22 to create this. Probably because of the simplicity, which I happen to like. It is nice with the neutral colors of the background, but still with fine textures, and the cards are standing out well against it.

The red spots, being parts of hearts, add interest, but the circle just in the middle of the Ace of Clover, showing the background through it, is almost a distraction. I also think, since you used layers, that you could have added drop shadows to the two cards to create a better depth in the image.

It is nothing wrong with the quality of your photos. They are both sharp and have a good exposure. When it comes to the composition I think it is unfortunate that the card is touching the frame at the bottom, and I also think you could have taken just a tad off on the right side.

All together this is a creative mixed media photo, and you for sure know how to work with layers, but I also think this photo needs a few adjustments. Still I wish you luck with the contest.

Thank you very much for your kind review and your input. I will think abut the drop shadows. I never came to my mine since there were none in the original photos. The cards were found near the back doors of a casino but not together. The 22 layers are the background, the as, then the Queen of hearts, the two hearts at the Queen cart because the originals are more brown then red, each of the broken heard pieces, the wood and several small stones.
The circle at the as-card is original. The cards belonged to an discarded deck of cards. In poker games with a lot of money involved it is usual to discard the deck after each game. It is usual to punch a hole through discarded cards to avoid the reuse of those cards in foul game. It's to avoid "the fifth as in the sleeve". The piece has a double meaning. If I cover the circle the meaning of the collage is not the same anymore.

I love this photo, great work layering the photos! Great work with the red hearts "bleeding" off the cards. This is certainly not a traditional photo, and I applaud your amazing creative work!

I like this work because it is direct in its concept and execution.I would have preferred to put a King in between! The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good luck!

Thank you very much for your kind review. It was not possible to put a king in between because there were no king. I found only those 2 cards on the street.

Your introduction is well thought - your composition well adapted to the text - your choice of the two cards excellent to underline again your topic - I love the cards on the ground as that is where people are left behind when they get into the trap - your picture tells a story and the way you present this topic is outstanding
This picture has a good concept is well merged together seeming to be just an original picture - excellent detail work, perfect contrast and lighting , - your color range and background are well chosen adapting t the colors of the card

a very creative imaginative well composed image, thanks for sharing

A very interesting shot = what are the red patches on the floor? As you say cards are the most popular source of entertainment, but that also brings them a source of danger and death - well, in the films anyway!!!

Thank you much for your kind review. The red patches are pieces of broken hearts you actually could piece them together again.

Fantastic composition, that is what strikes me first about this post. Then is is the great camera techs... the post work... 22 layers is a bit over the top, lol. I can't do two! Great colors, light and focus. Thanks for sharing and good luck.
