Graphite? I would suspect 2b through 6b pencils were used. The 2b for the fine details and 6b for the dark shadowing. This is of course, a fine drawing with that strong light shining down on the face. The use of another weaker light source for the back of the head completes the portrait image rather nicely. Reasons for my five vote.

Thank you so much. I will say that I only use a mechanical pencil, which is graphite. But I am flattered that you believe I use different types.

Oh ouch! Only a mechanical pencil would make my hand and fingers ache for weeks.

What a beautiful drawing of Paul Newman. He was perhaps the best looking man ever with his perfect features. The lighting is fantastic. The likeness is spot on. Love the black background. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Linda

Oh, wow! I must have missed this the first time you posted it. What a winner. I like that in this image you have used a dark background rather than your usual light one. Exceptional and apologies for being out of sixes. Thanks for sharing this gem of a masterpiece once more. R

An immaculate, photograph like graphite drawing that shows advanced skills in this field and a brilliant eye for detail, particularly the human form and specifics. I'd go as far as to say flawless on this occasion - the features are exceptional and detailed and the shading is near perfect. Such intricate detail that creates the facial features so accurately are really quite remarkable - outstanding work, very well done :)

    I am honored.

This was one of my favorites Linda. I chose "Mary" as the one to be honored with as a gift from you. I always save a six in the event of such an occasion as this. There are so many things to say about this image and Your Gifts, and I know that any words that may stumble out of my mouth are inadequate. So, enough said Linda ~ Steve

Congratulations Linda on your win!! You certainly do deserve it!!! This is one of your all time best entries I think!
And even thought I came in last in my own contest, I am very happy for you!!
Not so much for the second place winner, but her entry proved to be better than my' Natalie' in the eyes the voters.
Oh well I shall try again.
Thank you so much for taking the time to enter my contest Linda!!!
Sincerely,
Barb

Thank you so much Barb. I loved your Natalie. It was the best. Thank you for the contest. It was fun. You have great ideas. It seems like most of all the contests are for photography. The art ones are needed. God bless you Barb.

Excellent contest entry, and really well done, both in shading as well as balance. Great light across the face, and I really like the way you have feathered the darkness out so well. Really an eye catcher, and I find the left to right pose unusual as well as appealing.

Edbd1, how wonderful for you to express to me your thoughts on my drawing. I appreciate the wonderful rating and your inspirational words.

I have no artistic talent myself and cannot therefore comment of the technical aspects of an artists work. All I can do is judge whether the subject is recognisable and pleasing to the eye. I not only know who this is without the title but you have also managed to capture a sultry brooding expression. I like this very much. Mike

The talent here has blown me away. This is one epic drawing that really deserves to be shown off and put into various competitions and art webpages. What can I say, flawless. I want to give you 10 stars for this.
