Hi Mary!
This one's another impressive and enjoyable Botanical Image,my friend!
The B & W color treatment gives the piece a sort of Ghostly look but that's a look that I always enjoy! : D
Good Show,my friend!

An excellent shot. The black and white presentation focuses our attention on the form and texture of this beautiful bud. Excellent composition and beautiful tonality.

How's D7000 working for you, Mary? :) Judging by this lovely shot, I'd say you're getting used to it very quickly! The way you framed your flower is just perfect! I agree, it does look wonderful in B&W. The whiteness of the flower against the dark background creates beautiful natural contrasts, focus is crisp sharp, exposure excellent. I'd only try to balance the whites as I feel the upper parts of the flower are a bit too highlighted. The background is not overly distracting, but still: when you have a busy background (as it is behind this flower), you can try to set your camera to greater aperture; f/3.5 will smooth out the background, making your subject stand out without any distraction from behind.
I love the way you caught the first little white flower bursting out of the bud. Your excellent framing makes this a superb composition. Beautiful, Mary! :) Keep up the great work!

Thanks so much, D7200 is going ok been too hot to get outside. Appreciate your suggestions and will give the greater aperture a try - will have to put my macro lens on to enable the F3.5 you suggest. :) Mary

interesting photo, nice in black and white. Never seen this kind of flower before. Cool the way it bursts on one side instead of evenly. Your photo seems to have it leaned but yet our focus is on the bursting right side. Nicely done. Nice to focus on the flower only.

What I enjoy a great deal in this post is the contrast of the bloom and the background. Perfectly seperated focal point for the greatest POP OUT to the viewer. Your focus is petal solid with very fine detail and sharpness over the bloom. Nice lighting and shadow as well. Thanks for sharing.
