A very fine perspective. I like the lighting and the artful composition. The depth of field is excellent and the subject is meticulously sharp. An excellent black and white conversion with a great range of tones.

Comment from Life is but a dream.

Meg, this is what is known as Fine Art Photography. Fine Art images show the vision of a photographer, they are not photojournalism but instead ask reviewers to ponder.

And so we do.

I think you did a good job on crop and composition and the fact you shot from above also tells us of his fragility. However, there is something lacking...you need a bit more of a hook to get your audience to dream, ponder, react. A pair of legs walking by, perhaps another technique in post processing...a bit of a ghosting effect....even if that shadow of the tree held more information...a shadow of another person even.

In spite of my suggestions I do feel this is a great attempt at Fine Art Photography and changing it to monochrome was the way to go. You had a vision and your image has a message...and that is what it is all about.

I suppose we have to consider ourselves lucky if we reach this stage of life! Your shot from the rear does make the brain work harder than if it had been frontal. Composition, exposure and tones all work well here. A fine image!

Interesting capture. The B&W finish is apt for the subject. You have framed it well. The light and shadows and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

I'm not sure all of the edits were necessary for this piece. I feel like something is missing from the photo. The background looks more like it's lava instead of pavement and grass and the back of the head kind of blends into all of that. The strongest focal point is the jacket and the tree's shadow, and I'm not sure that's what you were going for.

I feel like there's a lot of potential here, you just have to find the right amount of edits to get there.

As far as the watermark: you might look into making your own because the FAR watermark almost disappears in darker images.

I wanted to initially award 4.9 stars but soon changed my mind to a definite 5 and note its thought-provoking nature and believe in it having taken effort and it being complete in the context of unspecified artistic license. Meg, however did you get all that together - was it a bit of ingenuity or not? I would have thought the past would represent some happier days, but depicting a blurry and in my mind dire background makes me think. The stark black mottledness and shiny black hat and 'coat' make quite an impression and your photographic and digital technique work well, though the non-black birth stone or topaz is the one that looks more mottled irrespectively of whether this is intentional part of the dichotomy or not. The black mottled shades look like a map of the stories of the past - they are all black and there is no exuberant life left in these. Actually, the entire picture is appropriately black and white. The insinuation of what looks to me like a road and a path has also potential for thought. It has a rather harsh point and is probably not what I would hang into my lounge, yet its greater depth is somehow abstrusely effective and to me shows a definite and even beautiful streak of artistry and I think it is one of your better works of the few I did have a look at - well done. 'How can we as society better the happiness of the elderly?' could be ultimately the challenging message herein. And are we doing enough or rather are we doing it right? Then again I am not sure whether I understood anything correctly - lol.

Thank you. I met this gentleman one day after taking photos of my niece at a community function. He was sitting almost in the street on his chair in front of his home. I noticed he was wearing an ID bracelet similar to one used in long term care facilities. He was very frail looking and we struck up a conversation. I asked if he would allow me to take his photo and he was agreeable. He told me that he was a professional photographer when he was younger and asked if he could hold my camera.( I use a Cannon Rebel) I showed him how the data card was so small and how much data it stored. He told me he developed his own film in his darkroom and took photos for the local newspaper. I guess I processed the photo to represent his past and the fact that maybe he might not have many more sunrises to enjoy. :)

It is a great arty photo. Thank you so much for your account, I was actually curious. Well done for asking him! A suggestion might be to include your reply in your account for the photo, but more as additional information, to give those who want to read less a choice.

I love the black and white photo and also I think that one time or another we all like to get away even if it is for a little while, just to sit back and see how far we have come along in life. Thanks for this memory. JackJr.
