I LOVE your photo, but think it needs more contrast. Good composition and balance so the bear and the rock don't overcome the photo. Very nice close-up.

This is a very nice capture of this bear. You have placed it well in the frame and have very nice clarity. The black and white conversion gave an nice dimension without the distractions often found in color. I am not sure how 'different' this is from the original, since the contest calls for making it into something different, but that is up to the CEC and the voters :)

This is what the contest says, so who know how literal they will take it
"Submit a Mixed Media Photograph for this contest. Mixed Media photography is a form of art that uses software to create art from photographs. So start with a traditional photograph (or a collage) and create something different. "
There are a couple of things you could do, depending on software. You could simply apply a painterly effect, or a posterize, or a cartoon. I may be that the CEC will let it fly, one just never knows :)
