A most peculiar flower to find on a tree. I like this composition and the fine sunlit colors. Your shallow depth of field does not quite cover the depth of the flower.

pity the focus on the upper flower is so soft, it really takes from the initial impact

good angle of shot, lighting, colors and composition

thanks for sharing

A nice capture of these flowers Mary, but I am afraid your focus is soft on both flowers. Focus is sharper on the bottom one, but not as sharp as it should be.
Without camera techs it is hard to help more.
I know the camera you use like the back of my hand, so I know it is one of the best Nikon makes.
I need to know what focal point you use, Shutter speed, f/stop.
If you were in complete Manual, then there was movement on your part. A tripod would be needed.
It is a nice capture Mary, but focus needs to be sharper.

Thanks Sange, appreciate your honesty. No tripod and was probably camera shake on my part as I was getting tired - no excuse. Was taken at F5.6 82mm 1/200s ISO400 and has been cropped. :) Mary

Even with flowers, raise shutter speed if there is wind.
If you use a monopod or tripod.. Remember to shut off VR on lens.
When not using one always make sure VR is on.
Always check it before shooting. Sometimes the switch gets turned off accidentally.
You are doing well, it takes time to handled, get used to the body weight and techs of your new camera.
I soon will be upgrading my camera and have to adjust to it as well.
    ;)

WOW I never saw an eucalyptus flower - beautiful with this pearl n the center

your picture shows the bloom in perfection, I love the two sitting in a perfect perspective
I think you framed your picture very well - focus contrast and lighting are excellent
color saturation is genuine, exposure is perfect
I specially love the red borders of the leaves surrounding the upper bloom
A nice and appealing picture had to take it out from the tub nail, thanks for sharing

Hi Zilyram.

This is another lovely addition to your collection of horticultural photographs. I love how you have focussed this with the flowers pointing in different directions. Thanks for sharing. R

An enjoyable presentation of flower. Never see such this flower. It interesting. The dark brown in the center makes the yellow more noticeable. Good focus on the nearer flower.

Well done and thanks for sharing.

Impressive capture of a unique subject.
An interesting initial impact.
Is there any more space on top Mary or we could crop it down to the stamen?
Can we still enhance the clarity a bit?
Subtle illumination.
Diffused focusing.
Thanks for sharing...

Thanks Dick, yes were some issues and appreciate your constructive advice. I am trying to post things that people can actually give advice on so I can improve - not much use as a learning tool if everyone tells you how wonderful it is and you know it isn't. Not that I mind the 6 that Fred gave me :)P
