This really is amazing, Eileen. I think it is very worthy of being the mixed media of the month photo and wish you luck. I see that we are running in first and second! Good for us, huh?! Anyway..love the eye color and the dark shadows that make the head seem separate from the body. A very dramatic creation from an outstanding capture. Good luck!!

great initial impact of this lovely duck. At least I think it is a duck. The eye just pops right out of there. Amazing detail, very nice lighting and good post processing.

    It's called a Cormorant. And they are sea birds that dive under water for their meals. Thanks so much Lmsmith!

This is a lovely close-up shot of the bird! You have framed it well. The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

Yep. I love this one. The black background actually works well. I don't know that I would have even thought of that. I LOVE the eye. Wow. That is good. Excellent framing, focus and detail. So well done in so many ways.

Eileen, I'm very sorry but I do not have a 6.

From the placement of the eye into grid line, to the eye catchment technique used, the black background and the beautiful details of feathers and face, this is award winning Avian Photography! Beautiful in portrait format.

Cyber 6. - walk tall.

Very interesting photo with unusual positioning of the black Cormorant. The angle of photo makes the bird look almost snake-like and serpentine with his odd position and iridescent feathers, which are smooth and dense like scales. That one green eye really grabs your attention, thank for sharing your intense photo.

a cyber six Eileen for this fantastic close up of the preening cormorant;
outstanding control of exposure for the black "color"; very sharp focus with beautiful capture of the blue turquoise eye;

A black beauty, indeed.
feathers shine, individual feathers so clear, extraordinary detail. Metallic shine almost shocks. Neck arced into the vertical wing is a graceful, controlled composition, then there is the shocking green eye placed in yellow, which ensures strong initial impact. Super.

I like the dark background giving this a low key style. You have nice exposure on his body and head with sweet clarity on that turquoise eye.
There is loss of detail on the neck area where his neck has no detail only soft black color. Not sure what happened there.
It looks like it was cloned out or softened.
I was giving a six until I saw that.
It still is a fine capture Shadow because it is the eye that draws us in.
Nice work ;)

    not cloned out and not softened. It was already dark so I worked with what I had. :) Thanks so much !!
