I really like this close and personal approach, and for once I even think the all black background is perfect. It makes the eye of this Cormorant to stand out in the most excellent way, and you have indeed captured it well. You have also captured a really great shine in the black feathers.
You focus is spot on the eye and it is shown sharp and well define details in every part of the bird. Also the exposure is spot on in this photo.
The tight cropping is perfect as well and I think the bird has got a very good placement within the frame. A truly beautiful and well taken photo and with strong visual impact.

What a fabulous photograph. The lighting is superb and the sharp details are especially eye catching. The blue ey contrasted with the yellow in the beak speaks volumes as a first impression. Your after photo work is so well done Eileen. Kudos on a real keeper ~ Steve

This is a very interesting photo! The cormorant is a stunning bird and especially the bright green/topaz eye. Her curves are soft and the feathery detail is spot on! You have a beautiful composition and it really stands out with the simple color palette of black, green and orange of the bill. I love the contrast and your highlights. I have never seen a picture of a Cormorant this up close and personal. This is quite lovely. The eye detail is amazing...it looks like an emerald it is so contrasting from the Black feathers....just beautiful.
