Wow, a great shot of the godfather of all natural photo shots - and one of the best I've seen! beautuful vibrant green in the seemingly random and enchanting swirling shapes, and given enough foreground to give perspective and clarity to the shot. Amazing.

A remarkable phenomenon just to see and here you have captured it in all its glory. I like trees in the foreground and almost wish it was shot with a little wider angle lens. The aurora itself glows intensely and the stars in the background are excellent.

my mother and her sister have just come back from a cruise in Norway and said that the best day of the cruise was the Northern lights and the show that the night sky puts on to all those fortunate enough to experience. Great structure to this shot and the tones are awesome and i like the silhouettes of he trees just peeking above the lower foreground frame

This is pretty awesome Fred. wE were in Tromsu on our trip, however it was during the LONG days, lol so we only saw light no night sky. The Northern Lights must be a sight to behold. Leave it to the scientist for such a detail, thorough and interesting description :)

Best of luck.

You have indeed captured the Aurora Borealis well, and you must have been in awe standing there watching this. I have seen the northern light myself, but never as strong as this, and it is truly impressive.

I like how the vegetation is included in the foreground because it works as such a fine framing. It could of course have been even sharper, but in this case this is a minor issue. The colors and the exposure are great.

The photo is also nicely cropped and it is good balance in the composition. A truly lovely and well taken photo Fred, and with a very good DOF.

What a stunning entry for this contest sg.

These are not easy to photograph....the gases make focus so difficult but you have done a really nice job. Looking at the stars in the sky you can see how crisp and sharp they are. Great spectrum of color you've captured as well....particularly that narrow band of purple along the left. It has a real ethereal quality to it....that...lol...or a Casper the Ghost quality. But I tease....b/c seriously this is such a well done shot of a damn difficult subject!

Fantastic notes...as always. Boy do I appreciate them. A beautiful night-time sky here sg and I wish you the best w/ it in the contest.
