Photobombing Cardinal

Funny and captivating at the same time. You could not have planned it better - even though your settings were not where you wanted them to be. You've done a great job of making this into a beautiful photo. Good composition, framing focus and dof. I bet you thought I was going to say that our flyer was too out of focus ;-)

You are right, it is very hard to get that setting in place before something like this flies into our view :)

but as sange has said, we rarely see them here and we do try to find them.

but ever elusive.

Love the one watching the other fly into view to perhaps join him for lunch :

Thank you! I think the unexpected visitor made a hilarious entrance into the scene :)

This is one bird we can never get a shot of. We find them at the wetlands, but they disappear before we can get settings...Focus.
So we know there can be improvements, but I am really liking the one in flight with angel like wings.
You come a long way since returning to Far Grace. So..
Atta Girl Gracie Lu!!
You have one up on both E and I..

Thank you very much! I really would have liked to have been ready for that bomber bird, but I kind of like the way this one turned out in spite of it being unexpected. We have tons of cardinals here all year long and they aren't as flitty as the chickadees we have - those birds hardly sit still for second.

This is a beautiful scene of these Cardinals. I love the stop action and mid flight of the one and the facial expressions on the other. Your photo is nicely framed and well composed. Your focus is sharp revealing good lighting with good defined details. This is very nice work and thanks for sharing!

I love the exchange going on between these two that you captured! Awesome expressive draw, set tone and mood. Great selective focus, lighting and rich color on your two subjects. Such beautiful fanned motion stilled.

Envision - Sometimes the unexpected jumps up and you can't refuse it you just have to use it.

I love the bomber. You did exceptionally well with this accidental take.

If I had to caption this a number of lines runs through my mind. the bomber "Hey! look what I can do!". The bird on the right, "I was here first, this is my branch, show off!".

Anyway - Dof, composition and framing are excellent.

Your camera settings are well beyond ok. You stopped the wing action cold. Actually the capture of the bird in flight is excellently exposed.

This is a grand take. I wish more of my test shots were as good as this one ... B-)) Bob

It was a real unexpected pleasure :) I think it's just the funniest pose from the bomber that really does need a caption! Thank you very much for your nice comments and the high marks - very kind.

Wow! You're also at the right place at the right time--Perfect timing!
Nice motion blur capture.
Cute & candid.
This is a good reference for a realistic oil painting.
Monochromatic backdrop is visually soothing.
Subdued lighting!
Nice perspective & narrow DOF.
Thanks for sharing...

That is funny looks like he is trying to impress in mid air "look what I can do, all you are doing is sitting on branch" great test shot your technical choices were spot on â?º Mary

Wow! I think your setting at 1/2000 was on it's way to capturing this guy! I love the graceful spread of his front wing that you have captured. The stop action is so close to great!

And the location of your two birds is creating a very artistic frame. The diagonal broken branch is as if pointing to the photo bombing bird. All in all creating a great story of the activities going on in this neck of the woods.

Your reds are excellent...with just enough orange to indicate a bit of the winter colors of these beautiful birds. Your dof is gorgeous. It could not be more lovely in color and in patterns for a bg for this scene. I like the bit of tree bark you have kept in your frame. It adds a nice contrast in texture. I don't know if it would have been possible to straighten it without disturbing the level of the birds. Maybe cloning in a bit on the bottom of the tree would be easiest. Or do nothing. It really is great! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you! I wish I would have seen him coming that sneaky bird! It was completely by chance so I was actually lucky that it turned out half way decent :) You know, I think adding more tree in at the bottom, or doing something with it would have been a good idea. I hadn't thought of that. Thank you for sharing your perspective, I appreciate it, keeps me on my toes :)

an excellent stop action; I've seen the pic few hours ago, hoping that someone will tell you to crop the branches in front of the bird;

Thank you! I wasn't sure if I would ruin it by trying to get that branch out, but I managed it okay without making it too terrible :)
