Nice capture of the flowers and the bee, but the red flower on the background is not blur enough and the over done saturation of the colors takes from the initial impact and rate

thanks for sharing

hmmnnn gg. Well, despite me wanting the red HEMEROCALIS to show I'll give you that....you may prefer that was less salient but as for over-done saturation...well, afraid I can't give you that. I photograph my flowers, grass etc as they are. My gardens are VERY colorful....I never feel the need to saturate the colors. Thank you for having a look and for ...your thoughts.

Incredible shot with FOUR bees! This flower must be ambrosia. What I really like, besides the lucky find, is the contrast between the colors of the echinops and the hemerocalis in the background, especially with the dark area at the top. DOF is accurately set.

uh-oh Anne....lol...you don't see FIVE Bumble Bees?? So pleased you like the red HEMEROCALIS in the background....I loved that shot of dark red poking out over the ECHINOPS too. Thank you so much for having a look but please count again....ahahaha..or maybe one of them flew away in the version you were looking at....lol.....Actually, there were about a dozen of them on this one blossom when I started....they don't sit still for very long I'm afraid.

You're right. I missed the one that's at the North pole. He kind of blended in with the hemerocalis just a little when I was writing with the thumbnail next to me. Ooops.

A very nice shot with superb detail in the bumblebees. The composition is attractive and I like the pincushion look of the foreground blossom. The colors are superb.

Thank you mm. Not the easiest (or best perhaps) of my images.....between the flower stems swaying and bumble bees entering and leaving the shot there was a lot to keep track of but I just love the colors. Do appreciate you having a look and giving it such a nice review.

Got a feeling that the dimensions you quote in your notes are not correct? Irrespective of this you have posted a very attractive flower shot here! Your central composition steps out the scene in fine style!! Sharpness and exposure are good. Well done!

Now there are several keys that occasionally stick on my tired old laptop Nik BUT I am always very careful w/ my notes. Went back and had a look and dimensions are correct. In fact, they are almost a bit conservative....not even an exaggeration here. This is not your Grandmother's little potted Geranium ....lol...when I say this plant is a monster I mean it. I think there may even be a photo of my gardens which shows this guy in his entirety in my portfolio. I'll post a photo of the entire plant sometime along and promise to send you a pm when I do...lol...OK? Thanks so much for having a look and giving my photo a fine review despite your reservations.

I take it all back and apologise profusely! Being a Brit we do not get to see such huge plants in everyday ordinary life!!

ahahaha...no need to apologize Nik...at all. Believe me there are people who come in and see my gardens in person and do not believe this ECHINOPS. I call it my 'Alien Plant'

Dammit Deb. I get sooo tired of you posting such superb photos. I want to and Need to Save my 6 stars for those that I want to encourage because I can "see" their innate talent even though they cannot yet see it. But NO, You constantly come along and post such exquisite images that I cannot Not give my highest recognition. I am not even going to go into what I see here, as you, my dearest friend, already know what I would say.....pause....had to get another rum and coke. I refuse to get mushy here.....SO...Give me a break and at least occasionally post a crummy photo so I can give one of the FEW six's I have to encourage the future "Others". ~ Steve

I do so love your work Deb...and the person you are.

...lol...a rum and coke Steve huh! Well good for you for relaxing while you do up your reviews. You may be surprised to hear that I almost didn't post this one....I was less than satisfied but I love the colors and every time it scrolls by on my screen saver I think "I really should post this one" Thought I might get beat up here so your sooo wonderful review and gold star is even more delightful than it might otherwise have been. Really so glad you liked it enough for that. Thank you very VERY much.

Certainly those bees like them. They must be contain some substance, a kind of Bee-Nap perhaps.
Only flowers who are full opened seem to attract those bees. There are no bees on the not full developed flower heads in the background. I read that Echinops attracts several species of butterflies too. Are butterflies indeed as crazy on them as the bees?

They sure do Cleo. I should have mentioned that in my notes....and you're right about the bees only being into the fully mature blossoms.....starts getting crazy around this plant about mid- August....right through until first heavy frost. Thanks so much for checking out my new post.....I love having other gardeners having a look!

The matured ball of florets attracts the hardworking visitors as she's the sweetest among the three.

Compact framing with ample marginal spaces on the foreground subject.
Those glowing plants at the back lends an interesting backdrop rather than grabbing focal attention from the main bloom...
Thanks!

Wow! You are really putting me in the summer mood. Fascinating blooms and the blue/purple color is stunning. I love the fact that the bees are all over this plant. Your framing is nice and photo is well composed. Your focus, lighting, clarity, and contrast are good. Your beautiful background and DOF are perfect complimenting your photography. This is very nice work and thanks for sharing.
