Northern Cardinal [Cardinalis cardinalis]

I love this...I wish I had a six. Cardinals are one of my favorite birds and always make me think of some of my family members who have passed as they loved them as well. Your framing is beautiful...with the bird in the lower left corner and the shadows adding just a touch of vignette. Your brush strokes in the grass add a perfect contrast of textures to the smooth feathers of the Cardinal. Proportions of the bird are spot on. His expression and position looking up is so typical of this bird. Beautiful in every way!

Thank you very much for your throughout and encouraging review. Do not worry about sixes, its never the stars which count. Its always the review which does it.

Really so life like. The pose is full of expectation and self-assurance. It looks as if you researched the various colorings which are so deftly applied. Really fine work.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments. Indeed I researched about the bird in my own books and on line. I also made hundreds of photos since I have a breeding pare in my garden for several years.

Beautiful Digital Painting of this Cardinal Cloe. Thanks so much for the information you have given. I always thought this was a bird only in the higher states, I had no idea they migrated further south, even to Mexico. I love the shots we often see of them in snow, with the bright feathers against the white.

Thank you for your very encouraging review. Oh yes, some of them are quite experienced travelers, especial the polygamous birds. Its quite amazing that such little birds make it down far south. Some of them stay in the southern states, but the Southern species is a bit bigger and the black patches on the face are larger. :o)

Wow Cleo, another masterpiece! Your detail on the feathers and your color selections are superb. I think your choice of background color is perfect to help the cardinal really stand out, yet still looks natural.

Thank you very much David, for your encouraging comments and rating. The combination of red and green is an old trick. Grass has usually more shades than tree leaves and reflects light less. That makes it ideal as background. :o)

Wonderful artwork of this beautiful Cardinal. You have captured him in his very natural pose with his head held high and alert posture. I like the way you have placed him in the lighter green foliage as they are quite often found on the ground. Good composition and technique. Nice work and thanks for sharing.

A very nice painting of this beautiful bird. The shading on him is nicely done. As well as the highlights on the blades of grass.
