Even before reading your comments, I got the impression that this lady is on her way of worship her gods. It is dark, early morning or at night, perhaps the time she is off work. She protects the lamp and the flame in it against the wind on her way to the temple. The use of light is sufficient to illuminate her face and hands and the saree. I am sorry that your photo does not turned out satisfactory, but do see shades of colors throughout the painting.

I really find myself drawn to the inner glow and warmth of color found in this lovely oil rendering, Seshadri. Such inner soul searching and serene contemplation. Her eyes hold so much fixed emotion.

Yes I know for a fact that painting repros at very much different from the real ones!
The minute details are gone!

The lighting effect are toned down.
The fine features & smooth textures are not as impressive anymore.

So I'll just give this an allowance of being much detailed and vibrant in the original version!

Thanks for sharing...

This is different for you Seshadri....but I like it very much.

The deep rich colors are wonderful (always my favorite compared to pastels) Really lovely job on her face....especially the eyes. The way tthe light offering reflects off her dress is good too and love the way it reflects softly off her face....and I can see it a bit through her fingers as well. The dark background was an excellent choice too btw.

Good notes. All together a wonderful entrant for this contest. Best of luck to you.

Deborah

A beautifully done portrait of the Lady with the Lamp. And a fine entry to the Portrait Art Contest. Thanks for the good artists notes and I like that your painting tells a story and is rich with tradition. Nice storytelling with the caring of the candle and the solemn look of prayer on the women face. The facial features are good along with the wonderful details on the saree. Your brush strokes and shading of colors are excellent. I also like the warm glow coming from the candle. A talented and creative art work. A good contender for the contest and good luck! This is very nice work and thanks for sharing!

Lovely portrait. You painted the lighted candle very nicely but maybe overdid the glow! Looks like she might catch fire! Nice shading on the sari and blouse. Her eyes grab me and Im mezmerized but around the nose area I find weird. Less shadows more highlight there Id think. Nice background on this piece. Well done!

A very nice painting. You captured the spirit of her. The golden glow of her offering placed by her heart signifies her love and devotion. I like how you have it reflecting on her face as well.
