From the appearance of your art work, I would say that your painting only serves to improve upon the original;. The details of the farm and workers are very well done. The colors and tones are realistic and natural. Good luck in the contest.

Cool,Cleo!
Just about everything ( past or present ) pertaining to Jamaica or the other Caribbean islands is a mystery to me but I'm enjoying this colorful and interesting interesting digitally created scene that you've presented us with,my friend!

I have been wanting to get to this one for days Cleo. My internet connection seems to pop off and stay off though every time I start a review....so fingers crossed I'll make it all the way through this time.

First....very good notes. Just love that you were interested in saving and reinventing the image on the box your friend gave you. Amazingly well detailed...for example, the cart mid frame...wow Cleo....also those tiny little workers at the left....I mean even their hats are perfectly done. But the building and foliage are also beautifully and well detailed. The warm tones throughout the piece are simply lovely and your two-tone sky is a wonderful frame for the busy scene below.

I know I've told you before but your digital pieces just astound me. This is such a pretty piece and I think you achieved your goal of re-inventing the image on the box easily! Gets a gold star from me Cleo....big time!!

Deborah (and I made it this time! YAHOOOO!!)

Thank you very much for your throughout review and your encouraging rating. I think I have never spend more hours on a painting because there is so much small detail. The sky gave me the most problems since I had to match it with the light below. Most of the sky was missing. Only some of the dark storm clouds above was left. :o)

You are so very welcome Cleo and I can understand this one taking you awhile b/c the detail you've included is just amazing!! I like the sky ...think you did a fine job filling in what was no longer left on the box.

Wonderful work! I just don't have six stars unfortunately... Soft background and light on the sand create the attractive depth of the composition. Skillful strokes of brush make palm trees look alive. thanks for sharing

Thank you very much for encouraging comments and don't worry about stars. Your cyber-six feels just the same than the extra gold.

Lovely rendition of times that have long come and past us by. I love your colors you utilized especially. With the palm trees and donkey (could be a horse I cannot tell because I really cannot see his ears) this gives me a feel of Christmas, if you will....it just reminds me of Mary and Joseph when they had to go to the barn to sleep. I realize this is different, but somehow it just always continues to point me in that direction...which is NOT a bad thing. This is quite lovely.....it is relaxing and serene even tho the workers are working. It does not seem like they will break a sweat.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you very much for your encouraging comments. I am not sure what kind of working animal this is either. I could not identify it on the old damaged print, but it is most likely a Burrow [mix breed of horse and donkey] . The workers are most likely black slaves which was usual for the latifundias in Jamaica 100+ years ago.

Wow! You did it again Cleo - another masterpiece! I really love the colors you used. I usually enjoy a nice blue sky, but what you did with this sky is just amazing. It just pulls everything together, and makes what would normally be just a 'pretty painting' into a real work of art. Well done!

Thank you very much David. It means a lot to me that you like the painting that much. The sky gave me the most trouble since most it had varnished in that damaged landscape print on the old box.

I like this digitasl work because it is so classical in its concept and execution and in its atmosphere; The light, colour and the composition have worked well. Good effort!

You certainly succeeded in evoking the impression of a time gone by. The colors are a perfect fit for this scene. There is a nice balance of light and dark, with the sun peeking over the mountain in the background. Lovely.
