A very nice shot. I like the desaturated look and the fine skin tones you achieved. The image is very sharp. The cropping is artful and his expression is perfect.

This is actually an emotional photo to contemplate. It reminds me so much of the boys/men in Afghanistan; having been through it and just waiting around to go through it again. That "Thousand Yard Stare", just looking outward and seeing nothing, just staring off into space with a mind that is numb. This scene captures it very well. The uniforms have changed, but the realities of battle have not and the toll it takes on these guys has not changed either. Thanks so much for this post. Maybe some others (non-military types) may get a sense of what it is all about. Great job Mary ~ Steve

Wonderful journalistic moveing image of a very young soldier. Striking thing is that his re enactment expression is so forcefully real in that he has been in battle before! Excellent capture of this moment of despair in desperation of knowing tomorrow brings carnage and death; All reflected in his eyes. Thank You for sharing.

A great shot which does conjure up the image and reality of these horrible battles that occurred in your fierce struggle there in the US. This could easily be a genuine capture from that era; except in colour of course, shot with great clarity and showing the authentic setting and clothing well, and the look of disdain on the young soldiers face. A moving and stark reminder of times past - great shot.
