The sharp focus and brilliant colors give us a perfect look at this monarch butterfly. The thistle makes for a wonder perch for the star. The background is a wonderful contrast for the scene.

A brilliant, close up shot of this Monarch butterfly, taken with excellent clarity and short DOF, capturing the colours and details of the butterfly and the flower exquisitely. Great, neat central framing and the blurred green background works in great contrast to accentuate the subject further and minimise distraction - a fantastic shot and best of luck in the contest! :)

The first thing about this take that caught my attention was the contrast between the insect and the blossom. There is great contrast as I noted but the colors work together, they don't clash.
The other notable aspect of this fine take is the background bokeh. It has a mottled but evenly dispersed shades of green into pale blue - love it.
The detail of the blossom and butterfly is so sharp. All the small parts of the Monarch are visible and sharp.
One of the better Monarch takes I've seen in a while ... B-)) Bob

A beautiful presentation of this little monarch butterfly. The structure is gorgeous as is the sharpness of your focusing as you've captured the wonderful detailed pattern of his /her wingspan.
